Book Review: Page after page of baby care
Summary: 3 Stars
Because this is a lesbian western and there are so few of them out there, and because the first book was better, I gave this 3 stars.
First of all, I want to warn anyone who has vision problems - the print in this book is quite small. I almost didn't read it when I saw the size of the print.
I like the characters, Jesse and Jennifer, and the western setting, but too much of this takes place outside the boundaries of reality. I can believe a few people in the town of Sweetwater might approve of their lesbian relationship even back in the 1800's, but the ENTIRE town? And they even have a marriage ceremony that thrills the entire town. Please. Give me a break.
Furthermore, I'm really not into childcare and a little of it goes a long way with me. That baby was mentioned on virtually every page.
The book tended to drag along with us changing this kid's diaper ever other paragraph, and the rest of the time Jesse and Jennifer constantly saying: "I love you." to each other. It's grand that they love each other, but it gets tossed into the conversation too frequently and when it doesn't necessarily fit.
Finally we get to a little bit of plot. Jennifer's father is giving her problems once again. I thought we took care of that in the first book, but if we did, he's back again.
This time Daddy arrives with a fiance in tow and kidnaps Jennifer, which leads to some tragic consequences.
Then we have a straight romance between a couple of minor characters of which I had zero interest, and continue changing the kid's diapers.
I finally couldn't take any more of the small print and the nothing happening and quit.
Summary of Rolling Thunder
The citizens of Sweetwater are planning the marriage of two of their own, a valley rancher/business owner and the town's schoolteacher. But just like the storm clouds that suddenly form to rumble across a normally tranquil sky, life can just as easily be disrupted by unanticipated perils. Jesse Branson and Jennifer Kensington, thinking they have already experienced the worst life can offer, find them- selves facing new and unexpected threats to their happiness. Jennifer must face her father and the unwanted future he has planned for her, while Jesse faces an even greater threat that could not only take her from the woman she loves but could take her life. While Jesse and Jennifer fight to save each other and defend their love, the town of Sweetwater faces its own threats from Eastern developers that see the town as nothing more than a means to a profitable end. Will Jesse and Jennifer again prove that their love is stronger than those who have vowed to destroy it? Will they show they have what it takes to survive and build a life together on the frontier?
