Book Reviews of Roland Martin's 101 Bass-Catching SecretsBook Review: An Education on Bass Fishing Summary: 5 Stars
This is an education on bass fishing.
I find myself returning to this fishing book again and again. You won't find 10 pages on tying knots, neither will you find tricks you'll forget when on the water.
What you will find are 101 solid topics on fishing from a teacher. Roland isn't trying to impress you, he's just teaching you in a well written book how to fish certain situations and certain lures. For example, there are 45 pages on spinnerbaits, and its good reading.
This is the book I reach for when I think about my favorite lake and how I will fish it anew in springtime with new techniques or refined methods.
Purchase the book. Add it to your fishing library.
Book Review: The Best of The Best! Summary: 5 Stars
I will not talk about all of the information on bass fishing knowledge that is in this book, because we already know that! I want to talk about the history in this book of the early days of B.A.S.S. and other pro's and big named people in the sport. I really liked the story of how Bill Dance helped Roland hook and land his wife, that was a funny story. You will enjoy this book in so many ways!
Book Review: More that I expected Summary: 5 Stars
I was expecting much less than what i got with this book. I thought it would be more like Bill Dance's 101 bass fishing secrets, but it is written more like a bass fishing encyclopedia. Good buy.
Book Review: A "must read" for becoming a better bass angler Summary: 4 Stars
At over 400 pages stuffed with information, this book is an essential treasure trove for anyone trying to improve their take of freshwater bass. Mr. Martin has a nice, easy writing style, and his love for fishing comes through over and over again. Even the photos of his hooksets, though a little redundant, are fun to look at, and he holds nice heavy stringers of bass that punctuate his expertise.
The book doesn't have an index or a glossary, and that would have been a nice addition. One mistake common to so many "how-to" books appears here too, which is not defining words that, while familiar to Mr. Martin and some seasoned readers, might be new to others. Even in the sections on tackle, he writes about a specific item but doesn't show what it looks like, so I was left Googling things to see what he was talking about.
That said, I learned a lot from this book and would recommend it, especially at about $10-- that's an absolute steal. Thanks, Mr. Martin, for writing this book.
Book Review: Nothing new here... Summary: 2 Stars
I really wanted to like this book because I grew up watching Roland Martin. Don't get me wrong -- it does contain some useful information, but like the pictures, it's 20+ years old. If you want to learn more about MODERN tackle and techniques, this is NOT the book for you.
