Book Reviews of Robert Johnson: The New Transcriptions

Book Review: Robert Johnson quit smoking?
Summary: 4 Stars

The first thing I thought when I looked at this book was "gee, I thought he had a cigarette in that picture". I looked around, and he did! They removed it for this book. Now, what would the point of that be? Do they think RJ will be more appealing if he didn't smoke? Most people who buy this book are pretty familiar with RJ I assume, and would notice the same thing. So, what's the point?

Sorta getting crazy with this whole PC thing...

Good book though, contains exacly what you would expect.

Book Review: The complete Robert Johnson!
Summary: 4 Stars

This book contains tuitar tablature and music for every song by the legendary bluesman Robert Johnson, who has inspired many blues greats (Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton are two I can think of. "Eric Clapton Unplugged" has two or three Johnson tunes on it!) It covers every detail, including special tunings and capo placements. If you want to play Robert Johnson tunes like they were played by the man himself, you want this book!

Book Review: Why would you alter one of the only photos of Robert Johnson? Bizarre!
Summary: 3 Stars

There are only 2 known photographs of Robert Johnson- one shows him with a guitar and a suit, and the other shows him at an earlier age (also with a guitar) but sans hat and a cigarette in his mouth. Now why on earth would this exact photo be changed so that it appears Johnson is in fact not smoking a cigarette? If the people behind this book truly were interested in the truth, they would not play this type of politically correct nonsense. History is history; what is the point of attempting to change it? You only diminish your own project and your own work.

I would not trust this book for any truth or information on Robert Johnson based upon this fact alone.
