Book Reviews of the Richie Ashburn RememberedCustomer Review: A Beloved Member of the Philadelphia Phillies' Family Summary: 4 Stars
Here's a trivia quiz for you: Which major league baseball player had the most hits during the decade of the 1950s? Mays, Mantle, or Aaron? The answer is Richie Ashburn. This book is not a formal biography of his life, but rather a tribute to the man who was so much of the Philadelphia Phillies' franchise. The book is divided into five sections: his passing, the ballplayer, the broadcaster, the hall of famer, and the family man. Several photographs complement the book, and emphasis is placed on Richie in each of these roles. A fan of the Phillies would especially appreciate this book having become familiar with him as part of the Phillies' announcing team. For those of us who remember Richie's playing career while following the fortunes of another team (the Tigers for me) this book will give us a greater appreciation of his life.
