Book Reviews of Return to Labyrinth Volume 1 (v. 1)

Book Review: A long awaited sequel
Summary: 4 Stars

Having grown up with the Labyrinth, I often fantisized about what happened after Sarah made her way home. When I found out there was going to be a 3 part manga sequel I had my doubts as to whether it was going to ruin my perception of what began as a gorgeous love story. To my relief, it turned out to be a very entertaining read. It focused, not on Sarah and Jareth, but on Toby and what's happened to him since Sarah rescued him for Jareth all those years ago. Now that I have read part one I'm eagerly awaiting parts 2 and 3. If you grew up loving this movie or if you just watched it for the first time the other day, this manga sequel is worth your money.

Book Review: "ok"
Summary: 4 Stars

If I had to define this book for me, I would say it would have been "ok". I expected to be blown away with deep plots and inner conflicts presented as well as in the movie (even though I was aware this would be a continuation of the story). I felt like I was severely let down. It seemed it was written in a manner to simply pump out something linked the labryinth name in order to make money. Jim Henson is probably turning over in his grave. It reeks of "Fanfiction" and I agree with many of the things other people have said on here. However, if you are a labryinth fan, it is a nice novelty item, and i'm glad I have it, because it's just funny.

Book Review: Looking forward to the next book
Summary: 4 Stars

As a setup for the next couple of books, Return to Labyrinth is pretty decent. I'm not really a big fan of the manga style, so that was a disappointment (I would have loved to see a full-color graphic novel instead), but the story isn't bad: Toby doesn't remember ever going to the Labyrinth, and Sarah never told him about it (she's supposed to have a much larger role in the upcoming books), and Jareth lures Toby back to the Labyrinth because he needs Toby to take his place. New characters are introduced, and we get reacquainted with old ones. As a longtime fan of the film, I'm just pleased to have anything new about the world of Labyrinth.

Book Review: Not bad, for what it is......
Summary: 4 Stars

Great story for those who always want a sequel. A better starting point for this story would be Labyrinth--A Novel by A.C.H. Smith which is a novel adaptation of the movie. The cover art promises so much more than what is provided inside, which is a disappointment. The renderings of the known goblins are true to the originals, but, the newer characters lack the depth of detail that Henson is famous for. I am hoping for interesting twists and turns in the second installment, which was due out December 2006.

Book Review: Has promise
Summary: 4 Stars

I was really excited about this book, as a big fan of the movie Labyrinth. I thought the art was fantastic and it's a great medium for this type of story. However, there is not much plot development in this volume. Most of it is taken up with introductions and silly humor. I will be excited to see where the story goes. I wouldn't consider this story a continuation of Labyrinth, more like a fan work in the same universe.
