Book Reviews of Report from Engine Co. 82Book Review: For those wanting a career in fire, this is step one... Summary: 5 Stars
Before anyone decides to dedicate their lives to becoming a firefighter, they would be wise to start their research here. Some 30+ years after it was first published, this book still shows remarkable insight into the lives, struggles, and emotions of a professional firefighter. When I started on the road to becoming a firefighter, being a volunteer and reading Dennis Smith books asserted in my mind that my life would be wasted doing anything else. For others, this may convince you that the job is not for you. It isn't for everyone. Either way, this is a very enjoyable read and worth the time and money for anyone, not just firemen and wannabe's.
Book Review: Wow! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is absolutely amazing. I started reading it because I was down to the deadline on choosing a book for a school report and now I'm sure I had the best book in the class. Smith takes you into the depths of a huge fire where you can actually feel the heat and choke on the smoke and then the next moment makes you feel his frustration when he takes you to his tenth malicious false alarm of the night. I have a whole new respect for the firefighters in my community and thank God that I have them. Not untill I read this book did I fully understand exactly what firefighters do. I am totally and compleatly amazed!
Book Review: I felt like I was there! Summary: 5 Stars
Dennis Smith grabs your attention from the very first word to the last. Report from Engine Co. 82 is a great book that not only shows you what life was like in 70s Brooklyn, but what life was like on a daily basis for the men of the FDNY. This book is an easy read and completely grabs your attention. So many times I felt like I was really there fighting those fires along side Dennis and the rest of his crew. I strongly recommend this book to any fellow brother and sister firefighter or anyone for that matter who wants a taste of true "Old School" firefighting!
Book Review: Report from Engine Company 82, The best! Summary: 5 Stars
I read Report from Engine Company 82 in one night back in 1978. This is a book about real life in the Bronx back when the Bronx was burning, ALL THE TIME! Back then Firemen did calls like paramedics do them now, busy!
Ths book tells you about the damage fire causes, the senseles loss of life and how firement deal with these issues.
Required reading if you want to be a firefighter. I have given abut 10 copies of this book away as gifts.
Book Review: Essential Reading for all firefighters Summary: 5 Stars
This book was recommended to me by a fellow firefighter in my company, and it took me only one day to read. Each chapter just lures you deeper and deeper into Dennis Smith's world and what it was to be a firefighter at Engine Comapny 82. This book should be required reading for all firefighters and those who aspire to be one of America's Bravest. He tells it like it is, with no holding back. Brotherhood, bravery, anguish, and wicked humor awaits.
