Book Reviews of Rent: Vocal Selections (Essential Musicals)Book Review: You're What You Own... Summary: 4 Stars
The essence of Rent was absolutely captured in this vocal selections book, with great songs such as "One Song Glory", "Another Day/No Day But Today", and "Your Eyes", included, however I was disappointed to see that songs such as "Over the Moon", and my personal favorite "La Vie Boheme" were not included. Guitar chords above measures in the music make easy for a non-piano expert such as myself to play the songs and sing along. Now this is not an original broadway score, and some songs sound awkward on the piano, but once a person is set with just sitting down at the piano to have fun playing their favorite Rent songs, this book is perfect.
Book Review: fun + challenging wins the race Summary: 4 Stars
It took me a while to learn to play any of these songs on my guitar... and they sound awesome... It was one of my dreams to play songs such as "One Song Glory" and others. My dreams it to be Rojer in the broadway play for rent... and this is getting me evercloser to my dream. The music is challenging and quite long. Also once you learn the song on one instrument it sounds sort of strange... but if you have other people playing with you and a singer It sounds exactly like the show... This book is awesome.. definately worth the money! SO BUY IT!
Book Review: RENT OBC vs. RENT the movie vocal selections Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great vocal selection book, however, it only has 12 songs. RENT the movie vocal selections has 18. The music is pretty much the same in both, even though some of the words are changed in the movie book. I think the movie selection book is only $1 more and it's well worth it. If you are a hardcore RENThead like me though, you may prefer the OBC (original broadway cast) vocal book because it is more true to Jonathan Larson's original production.
Book Review: A Good yet not great book of music Summary: 4 Stars
This book is a good book for an experienced piano player. By the music that is contained in this book, you do not get the feeling while playing it, as if you were in the theatre listening to the band. Yet, it is a good book to learn and discover the favorite melodies of the hit broadway musical. If you are a true RENTaholic, it is a must have!
Book Review: Take Advice From a "Rent-Head" Summary: 4 Stars
This book rocks! The words are easy to follow, and though the accompaniment (sp?) is hard, it sounds great once you've learned it! The only thing is, it doesn't have quite all the songs you might be looking for, so check! No day but today!
