Book Review: Sophie Kinsella Strikes The Mother Lode of Chick Lit Fun
Summary: 5 Stars

Fresh, fun, and fabulous describes Kinsella's newest heroine, the indefatigable Lexie Smart. Waking up in a hospital bed and realizing she has lost three years of her life is no laughing matter, but being fascinated by her shiny new hair, pearly white teeth, ultra-toned body, and eye-catching manicure softens the blow. Frustrated by not remembering anything past the night when, at age 25, the snaggle-toothed carpet seller was getting smashed with her best friends after losing out on a company bonus and being stood up by her loser boyfriend the night before her Dad's funeral, Lexie begins an often frustrating but always interesting journey to find out how she became, at age 28, a senior executive of her company, married to a handsome husband she can't remember, and at home in a posh loft apartment with pieces of furniture and art she could never dream of affording.

Her new life is too perfect until she discovers her former friends want nothing to do with her, her husband's right-hand man tells her they are having an affair, and her sweet baby sister has become an extortionist. How Lexie sorts out what happened in the missing three years will have you alternately gasping and laughing. Sure, you may have to suspend reality a bit, but the trade-off is an entertaining story that is light and breezy and sure to be a hit with Kinsella's legions of fans. I never thought she'd be able to top the fun of the Shopaholic books, but I think she actually did it with this one. Not only is Lexie as endearing as Becky Bloomwood, but the story is much more suspenseful as little by little we come to understand what happened to Lexie to move her out of her struggling, lackluster existence to become the shining star of her crowd.

Book Review: Great, fast read!
Summary: 5 Stars

What would happen if you woke up and could only remember from 2004 to the present? That's what happened to 27 year-old Lexi. She was in a car accident and when she awakes, she can only remember an accident where she fell 3 years previously, and everything else is blank. She can remember being in a club with her friends, Fi, Carolyn and Debs. They were drinking banana cocktails and Lexi was upset that Dave stood her up. Then she wakes up in the hospital. But what's amazing is that from the moment she can remember, everything changed. She had her teeth fixed and she went on a TV show called Ambition and met Eric. Eric is now her husband and she doesn't even know him. Then, at work, she got a huge promotion. Her friends Fi, Carolyn, and Debs now hate and ignore her. She has a new best friend, Rosalie. Her cute little sister has turned into a hellion and all her mother does is talk to her dogs. How did all of this happen? Will anyone help her fill in the blank spots and will she ever get her life back?

Sophie Kinsella is SUCH a great author and this book is no exception. It's a book that anyone can enjoy. I felt for Lexi, because she woke up in this life that she has no idea about, decides to make the best of it and to figure out what happened to her. And she wants to figure out how she became "the cobra" at work and why everyone there hates her. She also meets Jon, an architect, who works with her husband, that she might have more to do with than she can imagine. All the characters are vivid and colorful. You'll hope Lexi can turn things around and remember everything. This is an awesome book and highly recommended read.

Book Review: Remember Me?
Summary: 5 Stars

Kudos to Sophie Kinsella for taking a soap-operatic topic like memory loss and turning it into a fully non-cliched book! Not only that, she takes the usually flat genre of chick-lit and brings in a massive dose of suspense, leaving the reader positively on their toes trying to find out what happens next. While many chick-lit books may have interesting plots and plot twists, none of them really brings in an element of mystery, from what I've read so far, at least. It was slightly difficult, although necessary to the plot, to read about the snobbery of life as a high-upper, but again, that was the entire point of the book, to make the reader feel as uncomfortable as Lexi must have been. The ending was great--I'm sure everyone expected, particularly by the misleading summary on the book cover, Lexi to regain her memory. Kinsella brings her memory back, but only a flash, and the subject of the tiny flash is what makes it so poignant. The novel would have been destroyed had Kinsella brought her entire memory back, it would nullify the point of the whole book--Lexi finding herself. The most notable aspect of the book to me was the abundance of amazing references that, for once, I actually understood. I think this contained the most amazing HP reference ever, as well as good ones to The West Wing, Coldplay, and 'Bad Day' (it really truly WAS the song everyone was singing back then!)

Rating: 4.5/5

Book Review: In a nutshell: brilliant book
Summary: 5 Stars

It's been awhile since a book grabbed me from the first page, but this one did. The characters are very well-developed and interesting from the beginning, and the addition of the mystery surrounding the lost memory and her transformation make for a very compelling story. I found myself actively rooting for Lexi - willing her to see what was so painfully obvious! And yet, despite the fact that maybe she's a bit too trusting and might come across as a bit dense (I mean, really, why couldn't she see what was so painfully obvious?) she's eminently likeable. Who knows how anyone would react being thrust into that situation? It's a frightening scenario, and I think the flaws in her lent a great deal of credibility to the story. And you're willing her to have the storybook happy ending.

As for the ending, I won't give anything away but I will say (despite the true cheesiness of the last line) I was impressed. It was handled very well and... I liked it. It was a great finish to an engrossing story.

Though I like the Shopaholic books, this one is in a league of its own. Okay, yes, it is still a 'chick' book, but one of the better done ones. I think it would make a brilliant movie. I would recommend it to anyone who likes chick-lit, and even a few people who aren't so keen on it. Try it, it might surprise you.

Book Review: Remember Me?
Summary: 5 Stars

Time flies, yet, probably not as quickly as it has for Lexi Smart.
When she wakes up in a hospital bed, she discovers that it's three years later and things are very different from the way she remembers them to be.

In fact three years ago, Lexi was a plain-Jane entry-level employee who was wallowing in self-pity, stood up by "Loser Dave" and about to attend her father's funeral. Fast forward to the present and she is now part of the elite senior management team at work, married to a gorgeous, rich and successful Adonis and her snaggle tooth smile is replaced by a pair of shiny and straight snow white veneers.

The perfect life that she's always dreamed of came to fruition right before her eyes. But who is she? Frustrated with the fact that her memory is taking way too long to come back, Lexi solicits a little help from her new husband who unconsciously unleashes a slew of mysteries behind the part of her past that she can't remember.

It seems that Lexi's trip up the ladder of success has been a wild one and as she begins to put all of the pieces together she discovers she's not too fond of the person she's become.

REMEMBER ME? is a fun, light, and romantic read that is well written and full of hilarious moments. Miss Kinsella has definitely done it again!
