Book Reviews of Red Ranger Came CallingBook Review: A Christmas classic in my family Summary: 5 Stars
Every Christmas Eve my father would read "The Night Before Christmas" and bible story of Jesus's birth. I was a lovely family tradition, but it needed breath of fresh air.I discovered "Red Ranger" in a book store long before I had children and bought it for myself. I read it to anyone who would listen and bought copies for friends and family with children. It's such a magical story - and SO funny! The illustrations alone are hilarious works of art. The end really blew me away. Now my four year old daughter can't wait until Christmas Eve to read it. We read it every night in December. And every night she believes a little bit more.
Book Review: Be Careful!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great book. The message (believe and be grateful) is well delivered. The writing is really funny, the illustrations are lively and hold the attention of the reader. BUT BE CAREFUL! Read this book on your own first, before you read it to your kids on Christmas Eve...because the main character questions whether or not Santa is real, and he does it in a very pre-teen, sarcastic way. It may get kids questioning the whole "Santa" idea in the first place, even though in the end Santa is real. However it takes a somewhat mature reader to figure that out. Great book, just read it before you share it with your kids.
Book Review: The BEST Christmas Book EVER! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been known to buy several copies of this book and give it to people whom I think need to get the message. I LOVE this book. I love to read it aloud~ even to adults. Breathed is so clever and the text is magnificient. The illustrations are vivid.
The story is about a boy in depression days so it may be better to give it this year than ever before. I've never given it as a gift and not had a great reaction.
This book may help even the most cynical believe in Santa Claus again.
I think I'll go read it right now in preparation for reading it to a group in a couple of weeks.
Book Review: Breathed breathed magic back into Christmas. Summary: 5 Stars
Red Ranger Came Calling is a lavishly illustrated Christmas tale that Berkeley Breathed's father would relate to his son, and is now being given to us.
This is a tale of a pessimistic young boy and a pessimistic old Santa who restore each others faith in the magic of Christmas during the depression. The prose and images bring the story to life, and the final image is enough to make you believe in magic all over again.
This is a Christmas story that should have a place of honor beside on your bookshelf beside "The night before Christmas" and "A Christmas Carol."
Book Review: Fun for adults and children Summary: 5 Stars
The story of the Red Ranger and his encounter that will change his life forever is one of the most hearwarming stories about gaining faith, and regaining faith that has ever been written. Breathed has taken his ability to write humurous stories with a point to a new level in this book and has given the readers of today and tomorrow with something to believe in. At the same time his writing isn't at a level that excludes obvioius audiences, children. His fun story is something that children of any age will enjoy and take delight in reading or having it read to them.
