Book Reviews of Rebel Heart: An American Rock 'n' Roll JourneyBook Review: Still Shining Brightly, A Survivors Tale Summary: 4 Stars
I put Rebel Heart in my list of top ten books I love and reread often when I need advice or a mental lift. It is a great story of a girl from Virginia who at the age of 18 arrives in New York and becomes the toast of the town within weeks of her getting there. A bit of a rebel and non conformist, Bebe kicks up her heels and lives the life of glamour and fashion and rock and roll. She even becomes a Playboy Centerfold at the age of 20, making her the first girlfriend of a rockstar (Todd Rundgren) to do so. What I love the most about her story is how well she survived such a crazy youth only to become a beautiful and successful woman. She went through hell to get there: survived a horrible marriage, single motherhood, depression, financial difficulties- it is all there. She is not afraid to admit her mistakes and former faults either. I applaud her for that. She danced with her demons and then kicked them too. If you like happy endings, Rebel Heart has that. Bebe meets her fiance Jim and her relationship with her daughter and key "men" from her past becomes solid and secure. Amends are made all around and her spirit dances with the joy in the final chapter. If you want to see what happened next you will have to wait for "part 2" which I have read is in the works. Overall, her life is that of legend. Bebe Buell is poised to transcend her past and rise above the pitfalls of her mistakes and become a spokeswoman for all of us over forty and loving it. Now married to her much younger fiance, modeling again, writing three more books, and recording a long anticipated new record- whew!-we have far from heard the last of this remarkable woman. She came back from dispair and carried on in typical "Xena" fashion. Thank god! We need her and more like her to keep the flame burning. Thank you Bebe for making me feel good about getting older and staying beautiful inside and out. AND for never giving up on the future.
Book Review: an interesting rock n roll journey Summary: 4 Stars
The best part of this book is the insight given about the rock and roll era of the 70s from the point of view of a teenager/young adult who just happened to be a part of the "scene". Bebe takes us on a trip through rock and roll of the 70s telling us not only about her experiences, but giving us some insight into the off-stage personalities of some of rock's biggest icons. The only downside to the whole experience is Bebe's attempt to make herself appear to be almost as "huge" in the rock and roll industry as the people she writes about. In reality most of mainstream America had never heard of her until her daughter (with Steven Tyler) became a successful teenage film actress. All in all, however, a good read if you are able to overlook Bebe's attempt to be just a little more than what she really was.
Book Review: Got Rebel Heart for Christmas!! Summary: 4 Stars
I finally got this book and both copies too. The original hardcover and the reissue paperback. It took me two days to read and I LOVED it. All of it! There are so many stories and so many photos. The photos are so great. Bebe Buell is a stunning woman. I see her on VH1 and E Entertainment all the time these days. All I've got to say is I was not at all let down by the book or how it was written or the content. I was pleasantly surprised how sweet and candid Bebe is. She loves herself too, lol. Nothing wrong with that! This is one book that will be talked about for years and years to come. I await the follow up to her story and hearing about her life now. I'm sure it is as exciting as it was in Rebel Heart and if not it will surely be as interesting. I would tell anyone to get this book.
Book Review: Bebe's A Babe And I Like This Book Summary: 4 Stars
I will have to beg to differ with some of the negative reviews of Rebel Heart. I had trouble putting it down, quite frankly, because I found it very honest, sometimes painfully so, and I think that Bebe Buell has a lot of guts. I have passed the book along to two girlfriends who have also enjoyed it. In life and in love we all do crazy things. Some people just want to cover up their boo-boos and some have the guts to tell the truth, that is the difference.
Book Review: She's with the band too Summary: 4 Stars
A slightly lesser cousin to 'Im With the Band' by Pamela Des Barres, it's still got the dirt about Liv Tyler thinking her dad's Todd Rungdren and all the hell Elvis Costello put her through (Costello fans will not like this book, though he appears on and off all the way through it. It's a little more eightie's - and I'm not convinced that Prince is actually singing 'Bebe, you're much too fast' on LRC.
