Book Review: An Excellent Resource for the Layperson

The Real Life Dictionary of the Law is a splendid "everyday language" legal dictionary. The Hills explain legal concepts without using professional jargon in their definitions, while also adding invaluable context that will enable non-lawyers to grasp how the concepts fit into the larger scheme. The entries are accurate, intelligent, and easy to understand. I can only imagine the amount of work that went into this!
The book is well designed, with easy-to-read type and headings that stand out nicely. When a term has more than one legal meaning, the different meanings are clearly numbered. Cross-references are provided to related terms. Appendices include the Constitution, a brief explanation of the structure of the American court system, blurbs on about 20 major Supreme Court cases, and assorted other goodies.
Very highly recommended.
