Book Reviews of Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey

Book Review: My Favorite Chuck Palahniuk Book
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read everything Chuck has written and this one is my favorite, overtaking Fight Club. The world he creates seems so normal for the first half and then all of a sudden you realize he's created this alternate world that just engulfs you. I couldn't put this book down and once it was over, I wanted to start reading it over again. There is a big twist at the end and you will have to read the book at least twice to understand everything - and even then you still may not. But it's a book that makes you think and ask questions, which I appreciate. This may not be what you'd expect from Chuck, but if you give it a chance I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Book Review: Comeback Kid
Summary: 5 Stars

Chuck Palahniuk's new novel, "Rant" is an engaging look at the life of reckless dreamer Buster "Rant" Casey, and his quest for meaning in the world. Palahniuk crafts a beautifully understated dystopian world, one fractured by truth and lies, night and day, and space and time.

Palahniuk's newest effort draws heavily from the themes of Kurt Vonnegut's masterpiece, "Slaughterhouse Five," with a poignant commentary on the way everyone constructs their own personal reality.

This stage in Palahniuk's career was do or die, due to the recent duds, "Diary" and "Haunted," but he has paid his fans in gold--and then some.

Book Review: Fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I started to read this a few days ago and finished yesterday. It was absolutely stunning. I've only read Fight Club before this. This book had so many twists that I didn't expect. It was riveting. I could barely put it down. I liked how it was written, too. It reminded me how everyone sees/hears something different. Also, you found out different things about Buster or other people that you wouldn't normal find out about. It all depends on the person. Yes, sometimes it was confusing but that is only because of my reading style where I glaze over things. I loved this book and I will have to read more by him.

Book Review: A Return to Form for Palahniuk
Summary: 5 Stars

"Rant" marks Palahniuk's return to longform fiction after a "novel" of short stories and a collection of non-fiction. The first in a planned trilogy, "Rant" reads like a mash-up of "Huckleberry Finn," J.G. Ballard's "Crash", and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." It shouldn't work...and yet it does. Longtime Cult members will be pleased, as the book reads like "old school" subversive Palahniuk without simply being a retread. By the time "Rant" builds up momentum, however, the book is over--the last 50 pages are a whirlwind of ideas that Palahniuk never stops to explore. Looking forward to parts II and III!

Book Review: Awesome Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read a lot of similar genre, P.K.Dick and others, this is my first Palahniuk book. I got it by chance in the airport last week.

Fight Club is one of my all time favorite movies and I was wanting to read some of this guys work.

I wasnt dissapointed, this is a great great great read! Palahniuk creates an awesome reality built out of the interviews in the book, the players are excellent, its super esdgy and mind bending.

I am going to hunt down the rest of his stuff too - this is one that you shouldn't misss - this guy is doing incredible work!
