Book Reviews of Produce Your Own Damn Movie! (Your Own Damn Film School {Series})

Book Review: "Review this book on Amazon"
Summary: 5 Stars

"Review this book on Amazon" is something Lloyd Kaufman wrote at some point in all his "letters" to people in this book - so that is what I am doing now.

I will be honest, I have - since finishing reading this book at 5 AM last night - not produced my own damn movie. Maybe someday in the future I will - and I will definitely look back through this book to help me.

So now that you know I have not produced my own damn movie, you are aware that I can not make a statement that this book fully helped me produce my own damn movie. This is unfortunate. It is not to say I could not produce my own damn movie using this book, it is simply to say that I haven't thoroughly tested this book for any holes by attempting to use it to produce my own damn movie.

What I can review is the entertainment level of this book - and all Lloyd Kaufman books (well, I didn't buy that drawings-of-Troma-movies one, but all the film making books and the Toxic Avenger the Novel). The entertainment is high. It is sometimes ridiculous. The previous book, Direct Your Own Damn Movie, had a "Footnote Guy" character and a editor character. This one has both characters (I should note that I have no clue if the editor wrote any of the editor's notes or if it is a fictional character named after the actual editor) and an Index Gyno.

Lloyd is hilarious and lies a lot. If you aren't aware of Lloyd and just bought the book to learn how to produce your own damn movie, you will definitely be surprised.

I think the real review is that this is an instructional book that I bought to read for entertainment purposes. Nobody buys a dictionary to sit down and read and laugh. No one would purchase a microwave to read all the features because it is so enjoyable. I read a book explaining how to produce my own damn movie, something I don't see happening in the foreseeable future, because it was entertaining. I enjoyed it for the entertainment level so much that I stayed up until 5 in the morning reading it.

I will say that it seems to have genuinely good advice on producing your own damn movie though. And not just from Lloyd, he got all sorts of fancy pants big budget types to do interviews with him (look at the cover for a list of 3 - I also will say the brothers who made The Puffy Chair and the two guys who made Crank and Crank 2 are in this book. Along with that, one short interview with Trey and Matt from South Park is in the book.)

Buy this book because it is funny or because you genuinely want to produce your own damn movie or both. Plus, books with an unreasonably high amount of footnotes and an index are just more fun!
