Book Reviews of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure

Book Review: Thank You, Doctor E!
Summary: 5 Stars

Dr. Esselstyn's book should be mandatory reading in every medical school in the world.

In following the vegan diet he prescribes in his book, I dropped my cholesterol from 184 to 150 and my triglycerides from 221 to 169 IN ONLY SIX WEEKS!

And that's *without* medication. No statins, no drugs. Just diet and exercise.

People think that adhering to a vegan diet is difficult. It isn't. After a while your body develops a taste for good foods. And Dr. E's book includes over 150 delicious vegan-based recipes.

The group of heart parients Dr E. refers to in his book were all told by mainstream cardiologists to just go home and die: their cases were deemed hopeless. But Dr. E had another thought in mind --SAVING THEM!

Which is exactly what he did.

It's really quite remarkable how brainwashed the average American *and* the average American doctor is when it comes to proper nutrition. There are all these myths about how if you eat a vegan diet you won't get enough protein and you won't get enough this and you won't get enough that. Nonsense! Try it and see how sensible it is -- and how *great* you feel.

When I went to my cardiologist for a stress test, all he kept repeating were words like "excellent" and "perfect" and "amazing." Whereupon I asked him: "What sort of diet do you recommend?" And do you know what he said -- he said: "Oh, just a good, healthy diet."

And I said: "Nothing more specific that that?"

"No," he said, "just eat good foods."

And this was a NOTED cardiologist. Highly respected in the medical establishment. And that's as far as his advice on diet went! ... "Just eat good foods."

To wit -- I have read, and in more than one place, that the average American-trained physician gets in medical school approximately three hours of training in nutrition. ... That's it! Three hours!

As for it being difficult to follow a vegan diet, nothing could be further from the truth. The only reason people crave foods that are bad for them is because they've conditioned their body to accept (and, in turn, "crave") those foods. But with proper nutrition the body will suppress those cravings and will naturally gravitate to good foods. But *YOU* have to point your body in that direction. And once you do, once you start eating good foods, your body will begin craving *those* foods instead of the bad ones.

Also, if you think a vegan diet has to be difficult or boring, you're dead wrong. (Pun intended.) The best way to disabuse yourself of the notion that a vegan diet is lacking in taste is to check out the DVD by Jill Ovnik entitled "Change Your Food Change Your Life" http://www.amazon.com/Change-Your-Food-Life/dp/B0007YJGFY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1257375524&sr=1-1

Ms. Ovnik *shatters* the myth that a vegan diet has to be boring or difficult. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm on a vegan diet and I don't feel as though I'm denying myself ANYTHING in the way of tasty, appealing foods. In fact, at this point you'd have to put a gun to my head to partake of "The Typical American Diet." ... Forget about it. ... The beef, the sugars, the processed foods Madison Avenue has brainwashed most Americans into believing "they simply can't live without."

In any event, it's your body, pal. You can keep falling for the lies fed to you by Madison Avenue and by the medical establishment, or you can take a long, hard, sobering look at the US statistics on heart attacks, strokes and diabetes -- especially as compared to other countries -- and then ask yourself: Is there a correlation between those illnesses and "the typical American diet." (Duuuh!)

It's a no-brainer.

But, then again, the marketers peddling the junk contained in the typical American diet, along with the medical establishment that prefers cutting people open to *educating* them would just as soon you *didn't* use your brain, would just as soon you *didn't* think critically about what you eat and how you take care of yourself.

Corporate America makes far more money:

-- feeding you poorly;

-- cutting you open;

-- popping pills into you, and

-- in general, keeping you stupid and uneduated

than it does encouraging you to take care of yourself.

That *en-couragement,* that *en-thusiasm,* that *in-volvement* with your own fate has to come from you, from with-in you. (Get it? Got it? Good!)

Summary of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure

A powerful call for a paradigm shift in heart disease therapy.

Based on the groundbreaking results of a twenty-year nutritional study by Dr. Esselstyn, a preeminent researcher and clinician, this book illustrates that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent and stop the progression of heart disease but can also reverse its effects.

The proof lies in the incredible outcomes for patients who have followed Dr. Esselstyn's program, including a number of patients in his original study who had been told by their cardiologists that they had less than a year to live. Within months of starting the program, Dr. Esselstyn's patients began to improve dramatically, and twenty years later, they remain free of symptoms.

Complete with more than 150 delicious recipes, this book explains the science behind the simple plan that has drastically changed the lives of Dr. Esselstyn's patients forever. It will empower readers to take control of their heart health.
