Book Reviews of Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb TensesBook Review: So far, so good! Summary: 5 Stars
Of all the Spanish books I had bought, this book stands out as the most useful workbook. I like the idea that I get to have a short lesson/review at the start and when I answer the exercises, I don't just conjugate the verbs but I get to construct whole sentences which to me is very important. And I get to translate paragraphs which makes a good base for writing in Spanish. In the portions of "verdadero or falso" - instead of simply answering V or F, I add more input especially if I answer "falso" and I either write it down or just talk loudly, as if someone is asking those questions in front of me. You won't regret buying this one. (I can't wait to buy her other books!)
Book Review: Excellent learning tool Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this book about a month and it is humorous, very well designed, and successively takes you from the basics onward in a systematic way. Because I have a lot of other study materials and am in the middle of a Spanish immersion course in South America, I have not finished this book but for learning verbs, tenses, and vocabulary in general I highly recommend it. I am supplementing my other Spanish learning by reading a few pages and doing several exercises a day. The excercises are very well conceived.
When I finish this book I plan to buy one or two of the author's other books. It's like reading "The Firm" by Grisham and then wanting to read his other books too.
Book Review: After 501 Spanish Verbs, this is the book... Summary: 5 Stars
...That I tell my Spanish students to get. It's a wonderful resource for their parents as well. The reader can scan over a few paragraphs and have an in-depth understanding of the WHY and HOW behind conjugating verbs and their tenses. For any parent of a Spanish student, (even the little ones using Flip Flop Spanish) this is very close to an essential text, after 501 Verbs.
This one is better in that its explanations are more thorough and friendly to the non-native speaker that may not be confident yet to even grasp the concept of learning a second language.
As a Spanish teacher, I'm very pleased with this as a resource. No gaps that I can see yet, in this book!
Book Review: A great resource for getting over the hump of verbs and tenses Summary: 5 Stars
I have taken 4 years of spanish in high school but I hadn't taken a class in over 4 years and had lost most of what I had learned. This is a great resource that introduces (or reintroduces) you to spanish verb forms and tenses. Memorizing verbs and conjugations is probably the most difficult thing to master in the Spanish language but this book makes it easy to comprhend. This is not an instant thing though. Learning any language takes time and practice but this book is exactly what you need to get you over that hump. I would reccomend pairing this book with an audio tape that teaches conversational spanish through dialogues. It allows you to put to use what you learn in the book.
Book Review: A viable resource Summary: 5 Stars
This book has helped me tremendously in learning Spanish. Having learned a plethora of vocab, I found myself somewhat stalled in my ability to actually coelesce sentences and make coherent sense. The first chapter in regular ar, er, and ir verb conjugations alone proves worth the reasonable price. This is a big workbook of sorts that has plenty of space for you to write in your responses in the exercises(which come early and often) and makes for an easy and effective learning tool. I also am learning useful vocab along the way as I learn the verbs. I am very impressed with this book and recommend it highly to those who want to learn Spanish quickly on their own.
