Book Reviews of Practical Watch RepairingBook Review: good reading Summary: 4 Stars
its an old book , so you wont find much about quartz watches, but its fun to read it.
Book Review: Good for Pros Summary: 3 Stars
This is an interesting book....it's like a textbook for watch repair for manual watches. If you've got a lot of time, and some expensive old watches--say pre-1945 Omegas and the like, this book may be for you. Anyone who's already a fine-watch repair person would like this book, if they don't already own it, it's got all the hard stuff in it. "Hard stuff" like winding mainsprings, bluing hands and screws, making parts from scratch, setting jewels in the movement just to mention a few.
If you only want to adjust the band and change the battery, or maybe advance the time or change a gasket, this book won't help you much, it's just too dated and complicated. I say, if you're a pro, give it a go, but if you're a beginner, it's not a winner!
Book Review: Older reprint, disappointing Summary: 3 Stars
While this book is widely touted on watch repair "training" websites it is not exactly the easiest read or mostly clearly detail how-to book I have ever used. It is a good reference, and I am not sorry I purchased it, but I wish I had some thing a little more clearly written. For example, the author frequently refers to parts and assemblies that he never shows.
Book Review: Not What I Expected Summary: 3 Stars
This is a very good book for working on the watches of antiquity... you know, the wind ups. But, if you are looking for a primer on repairing battery watches...LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! The information included regarding modern watches is severely limited. Maybe I'll relist this book and sell it as slightly used.
Book Review: It's a bit dated Summary: 3 Stars
I suppose the book would be helpful for a raw beginner, but the information seems a bit dated, and not all that helpful.
