Book Reviews of Practical Watch Repairing

Book Review: Practical Watch Repairing
Summary: 4 Stars

Here is a book that explains the mysteries of your average wrist watch in clear easy to read style.
Once the technical terms for the mechanics are mastered it is plain sailing, especially if you have some experience with things mechanical. An advantage also is a dexterity with hand tools. So while this book gives you all you need to know, if its the first time you have picked up a drill, a file or tweesers, then mastering watch repair will take more time.
The trick is to acquire some old worthless watches and practice on them. My first watch cost $1 so nothing to loose as I feel my way.
The only criticism is the quality of the printing which is not crisp, almost like its been photocopied many times. Also the drawings are a little hard to read at times. An update with photgraphs instead would vastly improve it.

In summary, an essential reference for the amateur watch repairer/collector or apprentice.

Book Review: Useful but dated.
Summary: 4 Stars

This book does contain a lot of good information about movements, tearing down, cleaning and setting up a station. I gave it a 4 because it doesn't go into detail about reassembly and it was written when benzine was the cleaning agent of choice. DVD courses are more expensive but more useful.

Book Review: Great but complicated
Summary: 4 Stars

This book is very thorough and covers a lot of material. I was looking for something simple to do my own maintenance, and this book goes way beyond. This is geared more for the serious hobbyist looking to sit down and spend some serious study time!

Book Review: Very good horological book
Summary: 4 Stars

Thias is a great book in horology, teaching how to assemble and disassemble several watches. The only problem is that the book has not a review since 1969, then several new oil charts ans new tools and movements are not found in this book.

Book Review: Just a comment
Summary: 4 Stars

Practical and useful book to acquire some kind of skill and to know hot things work in an area in which I've not previous experience.
