Book Reviews of Practical Programming for Strength Training

Book Review: Must read
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is about the construction of exercise routines, not how to perform the exercises. For that info I recommend Starting Strength also by Rippetoe and the web site stronglifts.com.

This book is full of essential knowledge for efficient use of time and energy spent weight training. If you're not sure what you're doing, even if you're making progress, you're wasting time and energy. You could be progressing faster. If you're getting all your info from muscle and fitness you're missing a lot.

I'm mostly interested in strongman but after I got this I bought another as a gift for friend who's into body building. If resistance training applies to you then so does this book. You will know what you're doing after you read this book.

Book Review: Excellent Strength Training Resource
Summary: 5 Stars

Overall I found this book to be extremely informative and very straightforward. Mr. Rippetoe's style of writing can be understood by non-science oriented individuals as well as science-oriented individuals.

The concepts in this book can be applied to all sports ranging from football to bodybuilding. Not only does he teach you the how, but he explains the why. There is a "why" for novices, intermediates, and advanced athletes.

I truly wish I had this book when I first started training. The knowledge you get from this book coupled with the progress in your own training makes the price a steal!

I highly recommend it. I've used it in addition Coach Rippetoe's book "Starting Strength."

Book Review: Absolutely Essential
Summary: 5 Stars

I consider this book as well as Mr. Rippetoe's other book, Starting Strength, as absolutely essential for anybody serious about strength training. I use these resources daily to train my clients. In my opinion these two books are worth 5x the money that I paid for them.

In short, you will not find another set of books that offers such attention to detail while still managing to be readable by anyone. Mr. Rippetoe's style of writing conveys the information in a no-nonsense matter that can be implemented immediately. Absolutely essential for serious athletes and their coaches, on all levels.

Book Review: A classic for every exercise enthusiast
Summary: 5 Stars

Strength training is fast becoming recognized as the most important factor in overall health and fitness. Athletes have long known this, yet many coaches are woefully lacking when it comes to teaching strength. This book is the answer. The concepts laid out in Practical Programming are revolutionary in their simplicity. The authors have a solid scientific base for their philosophy, and back it up with years of experience making people strong. Good for all levels and physical performance goals

Book Review: Get this book. This book, along with Starting Strength is a must have for anyone who cares about weight lifting.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is essential to your training library. It, with Starting Strenth should provide all the information that anyone would ever need in regard to weight training. It does not have a bunch of references, but that does not mean this book is not reputable. This book simply does not need many outside references because Rippetoe and Kilgore ARE those references. Their credentials are impeccable and it would "behoove" anyone who wants to weight train CORRECTLY to take their advice.
