Book Reviews of Pierced: A Zits Close-Up (Zits Sketchbook)Book Review: Rate It For What It Is.... Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a "close-up" (as it says in its title) rather than a collection of all new stories. This follows an established -- and loved by many fans -- style of publishing in comic-strip collections. Many of the best comic-strip books zero in on a favorite character. As the character perhaps only takes center stage in the strip limited times a year the reader doesn't get the full impact of the character's, well, characteristics and overall contribution to the strip. By publishing many of the character's best and most loved appearances the reader may see new sides, a new focus to the entire comic strip. Lynn Johnston has done this with books that zeroed in on Farley the dog and youngest daughter April. Other cartoonists have done similar -- and I hope they continue. Although I have read all ZITS treasuries and follow it every day I found PIERCED to be a real treat and deserving of five stars!
Summary of Pierced: A Zits Close-Up (Zits Sketchbook)Zits is "one of the freshest and most imaginative strips." Los Angeles TimesTwice honored as the Best Newspaper Comic Strip, Zits appears in more than 1,600 newspapers and is read daily by more than 45 million fans. In Pierced, Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman have hand-picked strips spotlighting Pierce, who is often the most popular (and certainly the most perforated) character in their strip. One of Jeremy's best friends and the drummer in the band, Pierce's audacious body art gives all of the outward signs of a fierce nonconformist kid living on the edge. But beneath the metal and tattoo ink lies the soul of the caring, loyal friend and animal lover within. Or as Jeremy describes him, "Face of silver, heart of gold."
