Book Reviews of Pieces of My Heart: A Life

Book Review: GREAT READ ABOUT A REAL MOVIE STAR THEY DON'T HAVE ANY OF THESE TODAY!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Robert Wagner has been a favorite since before I hit my teenage years..I just bought a 2nd copy for a best friend from "our generation" sure I could have shared mine but no way..I want to look at it again & again..I watched all his TV shows with Hart to Hart being a show I wouldn't miss..I followed his career all through out my life and his..I may have even had Natalie Wood and RJ paper dolls..they did those back then for the favorites..if you are young you can't even begin to understand the "magic" that Natalie Wood and RJ had through all the turbulent times and the most exciting times...growing up loving the stars as he did and then to live all his dreams..wow..how blessed...I along with half the world was terribly saddened, deep felt grief when he lost Natalie..But the children kept him going...
Then the Lord got him back with Jill St John and he has been blessed once again in his life, with joy and happiness...If you like to read about "real movie stars" the good old days of Hollywood this is a MUST HAVE BOOK FOR YOU..
MAY God continue to bless you Robert Wagner..a true MOVIESTAR!!!!!!!!!

Book Review: Good Reading
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was well worth the money and time. I pre-ordered it from Amazon and read it as soon as I got it. This is one of those books I had trouble putting down. More than once I read way too late into the night.

Wagner writes about other celebrities he knew either intimately or casually. I was surprised to read that he thought the Laurence Olivier/Joan Plowright marriage wasn't that great. I've never read that anywhere else. I've read plenty about the Olivier/Vivien Leigh marriage and what went wrong there. Wagner and Natalie Wood invited the Oliviers to sail on their yacht "Splendour" and Wagner had some opinions of how Joan Plowright treated Olivier.

It was interesting to finally read Robert Wagner's account of when Natalie tragically drowned off Catalina. Wagner stated that he always loved going to Catalina from the time he was a young guy, but after Natalie drowned he has never returned.

I wish Robert Wagner only the very best and I am glad he found a beautiful, good woman in Jill St. John, to be by his side.

Book Review: A charmed life
Summary: 5 Stars

Robert Wagner's memoir is full of stories about his many movies (The Mountain) and TV shows (Hart to Hart), his lovers and friends, and, of course, his years with Natalie Wood. Wagner seems to be in real life much like the characters he's played - charming, suave, confident, and romantic; that winning personality combined with his ever-youthful and handsome good looks have made him a star for fifty years.

We learn about his decades-long friendships with megastars like David Niven and his love affairs with a bevy of actresses, including Barbara Stanwyck, his devotion to wife Natalie and later serenity with current wife Jill St. John. It's a fast, fun read about old Hollywood; I couldn't put it down. The book contains many movie and personal photos.

Book Review: This book is a treasure!
Summary: 5 Stars

This very moving autobiography is just a sheer delight. Mr Wagner writes a very honest, gutsy book. It is a rich tapestry of Hollywood and emotions that take you on a wonderful journey through another era.
From the way he describes his relationship with Natalie, his feelings of loss......the strength he managed to find to go on, it makes this a special book indeed.
One cannot help but be struck by Mr Wagners emotional intelligence.....it is truely remarkable. No wonder he is close to so many people.....no wonder they are so close to him. He is a truely rare human being. While he is awestruck with his fellow actors, he is never intimidated by them, and his relationships with them are a joy to read.
This book is a treasure. It is a real gift.

Book Review: Not your usual Hollywood memoir
Summary: 5 Stars

In full disclosure, I admit that Robert Wagner was my first (and only major) movie/TV star crush. I fell madly in love with him when I was in my early teens during the run of "It Takes a Thief." Many years later, I was waiting at a traffic light on Sunset Boulevard and looked over at the Range Rover next to me. He was just as handsome in real life.

Robert Wagner has written a book that transcends the usual Hollywood memoir. He's honest and intelligent, and writes from the heart. Thankfully, he doesn't stoop to dissing his fellow actors. I was surprised to hear about his affair with Barbara Stanwyck. I would never have imagined that one!).

Anyway, RJ, if you're reading this, thanks and much love.
