Book Reviews of Piano Girl: A MemoirBook Review: Piano girl: from the other side of the keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
Even though this is Robin Meloy Goldsby's first book, it was a masterpiece! Her writing communicated stories that included a variety of emotions along with the observations this pianist has made of people during her career! And she encouraged another aspiring pianist to go for her dreams too! This is a must read book for anyone who is thinking of a career in the music business, especially playing at cocktail lounges, hotels, and catering halls. She touched the mind, hearts and souls of all her readers. One will observe how how she kept her sense of humor through all the trials and tribulations; and maintained the joy of playing the piano! Book Review: You'll want your friends to read it! Summary: 5 Stars
It didn't take long for me to laugh out loud, reading this - and that's unusual. This is a memoir that's long on charm. The Pittsburgh tales warm the heart ... the NYC stories give the reader insight into a world they hadn't thought about. Any time I heard background piano music ... in a restaurant, a hotel, a club, Nordstrom (!) it reached deep inside of me, creating an evocative ambiance - a slower more beautiful world. Now, I know the source of the music. Get it. Read it. Read it again. Recommend it. I do. And don't overlook the sentimental family ties on your way to the hilarious circus.
Book Review: Tips for reading "Piano Girl" Summary: 5 Stars
I laughed, I cried, it was better than "Cats" (although I'm sure Robin's had to play "Memory" more times than she can count!) Don't read this book in public unless the idea of strangers watching you laugh out loud all by yourself doesn't bother you. Have a favorite beverage handy, but don't drink and read at the same time; solo spit takes aren't pretty. Lastly, don't read too quickly, because you'll be sad to leave the company of this wonderful lady and this hilarious, often poignant memoir. As for me, I'll never leave the house without a roll of duct tape and an extension cord again.
Book Review: Great Stories! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this book. I laughed out loud at the stories of a life in the arts, and identified with many of them as well.
In addition, Robin is a terrific writer. It's a combination that produced a book well worth reading.
