Book Review: An enjoyable and well written book

I've been using PSPPXI for a couple of years now. It took me quite a while to become familiar with the basics of photo editing and the numerous commands within the program. What I've learned has come mostly from following online newsgroups for PSP and working with the numerous tutorials that are available on the web.
I had read of Robert Correll's book in one of the PSPP newsgroups. After checking out the reviews of the book and nosing around Robert's website, I decided to give this book a go...and I'm glad that I did.
I picked up numerous tips and ideas on how to go about photo restoration. Robert has a very good sense of humor and does a good job of explaining what steps he has taken to improve a photo.
When you buy this book, also buy yourself a good magnifying glass so that you can read the settings on the screen shots contained within the book. This isn't a slam against the book...just a fact that you will have to deal with.
Contrary to another review I've read here, you can download the "before" pictures that he uses in his photo studies. You can find his email address in the "About the author" section of the book. He responded quickly and seems genuinely interested in hearing from you. I strongly suggest that you do download the pictures to work from as you can gain valuable experience by doing so.
I would also suggest that this book is not for the novice in PSPP. Learn the basics first. I've used Ken McMahon's book along with the previously mentioned online resources to become familiar with PSPP. If you're familiar with using layers and have looked at most of the commands in PSPP, then by all means go for this book.
It took me about six months to get through this book. Not that it was difficult, but I took the time to go through each photo study and tried to improve my skills by following Robert's commentary on what he did to retouch a photo. I only worked on it in my spare time and took a few weeks off in the middle of the book.
This is my first online review of a book. If I would not have been impressed by the book, I wouldn't have bothered to write. But, again, I enjoyed the book and heartily endorse it.
