Book Reviews of PhantomBook Review: I've read it 10 or more times Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my top ten most favorite books. I read it for the very first time in junior high school and let a friend borrow it but never got it back. A few years later I went to buy another copy and to my horror it was out of print! I searched online for about a week and managed to find a used copy for about double the face value. I gladly paid the money and have read it about every year or so since. I have closely gaurded that old used copy and I'm very glad to see it back in print. Now if they would just publish a kindle version I would be set for life.
Book Review: Required reading for all Phantom fans Summary: 5 Stars
Both a prequel and a re-imagining of Gaston Leroux's "Phantom of the Opera", PHANTOM tells the story of how Eric came to haunt the Paris Opera House and how he grew from a disfigured but brilliant child prodigy into the cruel and maniacal, if not sympathetic, Angel of Music.
Susan Kay's treatment is fantastic and done with the utmost respect for Leroux's characters, settings, and tone. This book will make you laugh, cry, burn with righteous indigation and suffer at the cruel hands of unrequited love.
Book Review: A must read for Phantom fans! Summary: 5 Stars
I can honestly say this book is one of the best I've read in quite a bit. Most books based off another book or movie seem like little more than laughable fan fiction but this book is so much more. You know get to know Erik more intimatly than any other book or movie has been able to touch, he isn't just a character, he becomes almost an entity to be loved, pitied and sympthasised with. This book was given to me as a gift and I can honsetly say it was the best gift that I have ever recived!
Book Review: Kay stands the test of time Summary: 5 Stars
Perhaps a better homage to Leroux's novel than Webber's musical, this novel feeds the obsession of those lured to Erik. Kay fills out more details, and gives us hope for all the characters. In her capable hands, each main character you know is fleshed out more fully with vibrant and complex histories.
If you are a Phan of Webber's musical adaptation of Leroux, reading this book will ease the pain you feel after hearing the soundtrack of "Love Never Dies."
Book Review: My most favorite book ever!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am an avid reader and never read a book more than once because I get impatient and bored when I know what is going to happen. This is not true of Phantom. I could not put it down the first time I read it and ended up sobbing at the end. I gave the book to a friend but found that I couldn't stop thinking about it and so I bought it again. I have read it four more times since then and I am still profoundly touched by it. I love this book and I highly recommend it!!
