Book Reviews of Pat the Bunny (Touch and Feel Book)Book Review: Simply the Best Ever Summary: 5 Stars
Some things become life experiences not only for one's child, but for oneself. "Pat the Bunny" is such a book. It is so dear, so simple, and so very, very perfect that it is deceptive. It really can teach a very young baby about textures and colors and the fact that the world is a varied and wonderful place. When my first child (now almost 18) was less than 6 months old, I would take her tiny hand and place her chubby fingers on each different texture...the bunny, the cloth, and of course my favorite...Daddy's scratchy beard! (a piece of sandpaper). I don't know how much of the simple and sweet words my daughter absorbed, but she was cuddled in my arms, being rocked (our favorite place to read) and she definitely liked to touch the textures. Now the interesting thing is that the book remained special, and when she should have outgrown it, she did not. It remained in the collection. I think that's because it is just so peaceful and simple, remnants of a former time. If you are expecting, if one of your friends has a new baby, if you are a grandparent or a loving aunt or uncle, you cannot give a better book for a new baby. It will be that baby's cherished book in short order. Guaranteed. One word of warning, though. Make sure that you are buying the original, with all the textures. I saw one oversized board book version the other day, and its only texture was the cotton of the bunny, which carried through to each page. No no!! We need everything right for this book of a lifetime.
Book Review: Ultimate, classic touch and feel book Summary: 5 Stars
This is THE touch and feel book, and has been a classic for decades, and there is a reason for that. My daughter, now 14 months, has loved touching and feeling every page since she was about 6 months old. She always pats the bunny, plays peek a boo with Paul, and puts her finger in Mummy's ring. She never gets bored or restless like she does with other books that are unsuccessfully geared toward the toddler set. It is a simple, soothing little read, with the perfect amount of stimulation, and the perfect length. It took my daughter a while to understand how to "smell the flowers," but now she loves to do that, too. It is a joy to read for both parent and child.
For those who call this book "flimsy," the pages and comb binding have been the format forever. That IS the Pat the Bunny format, and it is perfectly sturdy. Just because it is not big and heavy does not mean it is not sturdy. In fact, many board books are so heavy for my daughter to pick up and hard for little tiny hands to manipulate-- and their pages sometimes stick together. This little lightweight treasure with easy-to-turn pages on a spiral bound make this book sooo easy for little ones hold and turn the pages. My daughter has played with it many, many times, and I do not treat it any differently from her other board books, and it is in perfect condition, just like the rest. I think a toddler would have to go pretty crazy on it to rip it or anything.
Book Review: Reviewing Pat The Bunny Summary: 5 Stars
This is a delightful story about two children, Paul and Judy. This story tells of the many things that children can do. It allows children to experience all their senses. This is definitely a good book for early childhood. This book tells what Paul and Judy can do and then invites the children to try it as well. It involves most of their senses from smelling flowers to putting their finger through mother's ring. Children love this book because it allows them to be active participants instead of passive listeners. The clear, uncluttered background makes it easy for children to understand the main action going on in the page. There are different textures used from a soft bunny to daddy's scratchy beard. The softer pastel colors really let the activities shine. The book is one of my favorites. I even went and bought one of my own and a video that goes along with it. I read it to all my family and friends all the time. This book is meant for early childhood, but I think it could be very helpful in teaching young special education students as well.
Book Review: my daughter likes this one better than the modern versions Summary: 5 Stars
My 2 year old daughter has so many books which incorporate different textures to touch and flaps to lift and look underneath. When her Grandad gave her this book I thought that I would appreciate it more than her because of the sentimental value of it being such an old book. I thought my daughter would be less interested because it doesn't have the flashy colourful pictures of her more modern books.
I was so wrong. Out of all her touch and feel books, it is repeatedly this one that she looks for in her book box.
I think the difference with this book, and no doubt why it has been loved by so many generations, is that my daughter doesn't just touch - she actively joins in a whole range of activities with the children in the story. She strokes the bunny, plays peek-a-boo, smells the (very perfumed!) flowers, reads the book, looks in the mirror, and her favourites - stroking Daddy's scratchy face and putting on Mummy's ring. It is a story about child's play and a child's view of the world, and the not so flashy drawings do in fact add to that.
Book Review: Pat the Bunny (Touch and Feel Book) Summary: 5 Stars
I have 2 daughters - one age 23 who just gave birth to a baby girl, Emma Jill, last week; and another daughter, age 18, who is living in Heaven following a car accident on August 2, 2002. 23 years ago, I purchased "Pat the Bunny (Touch and Feel Book)" for my first daughter, Jennifer. Around the time she was 6-10 months old, she already knew what "Pat the Bunny" was. Every single day, she insisted that we share "Pat the Bunny" together! She loved the book and it calmed her in a way that no other books or toys did. When my second daughter, Jill, came along, she was the same way; however, she had even stronger feelings about "Pat the Bunny." She even slept with it! I believe "Pat the Bunny" is an EXCELLENT book for children beginning at about 6 months old. Today, my little grandaughter will receive her first package in the mail - "Pat the Bunny!" I hope she receives the same enjoyment as her mother and aunt did and I am very sure she will! Thank you to Dorothy Kunhardt for creating a book that is so touching for all children. Sincerely, Peggy Rozell
