This book was a big of a mixed bag for me. I think we've all had those thoughts of "what if", I know I have. How would I manage if something happened to my husband? I know a couple of people that lose their spouse and I'm in awe of them. How do they manage it? I loved that Gerry helped Holly along - each month giving her something to accomplish even after he was gone. From the funny "buy a lamp so you stop bumping up your shins" to the serious "give away my clothes and things", it was a wonderful story of grief and healing.
There were a few parts that the story dragged a bit. Some parts I could have done without. At times it was one big cliche, but overall, it was surprising. I didn't see a few of them coming.
I laughed and cried while reading this book, it's very touching. The writing was - well, she's a new writer. It was good and solid, but lacked "something" - I'm not sure what. BUT don't let the fact that this is her first novel sway you. I'd give this one three stars. Pick it up, it's definitely read-worthy.
