Book Review: My wife and Baby son both loves these tapes!
Summary: 5 Stars
I am not sure who enjoys these First Impressions Videos more - my wife or my 5-month old son. She is convinced that they are the best thing to come along since disposable diapers. My son enjoys these tapes tremendously. We have shut the tape off in the middle of playing and he starts to get fussy and cry. On the other hand, if he is fussy and we put in a First Impressions tape, as soon as he hears the opening music he will start to chuckle. My wife has convinced all the new moms she comes in contact with that this product is excellent for developing infants.

Over 30 pairs of opposites--about one for each minute of the film--highlight the fifth volume of Baby's First Impressions, a Parent's Choice Award-winning collection of 10 outstanding educational videos. Expected examples like "stop and go" share equal screen time with more advanced concepts such as "smooth and rough." The amount of content covered is admirable; what's exceptional, though, is the multisensory way each pair is presented. First, a female voice announces a word as the camera captures a scene (for example, "Yes," as a group of kids happily grab cookies from a plate.) Then a male voice chimes in with the opposite word ("No," as the kids refuse a similar offering of Brussels sprouts). Words also appear on the screen during the second or third example of each pair. Brief review sessions, signaled by a change in background music, quiz viewers on what they have just learned. While this excellent material seems best suited to preschoolers, the upbeat music and sheer variety of visual stimuli will appeal to kiddos from 8 months to 4 years old. --Liane ThomasSchool & Education Books
