I bought this book before going to Botswana on safari. The excellent text and quality photographs were very helpful in preparing me for my first trip to this area. The reason that I have not given it a higher score is due to the poor quality of the binding. The cover came off during my first reading of this book.
Summary of Okavango: A Journey
The Okavango is a dynamic ecosystem that has been shaped by many natural forces. The magical trip depicted in this book illustrates the ways in which these forces influence this ever-changing environment.The Okavango Delta is captivatingly described in three sections that feature the plant and animal life of the distinctive habitats:
* Air - the world of creatures that fly and swing from trees is examined from a daisy-yellow Tigermoth biplane that shares the sky with vultures and storks.
* Water - the journey continues in a small wooden dugout canoe through drooping papyrus heads and water lilies and ventures into the aquatic environment of geese, hippos and crocodiles.
* Land - the adventure concludes with a walk through the delta where we encounter mushrooms sprouting from the earth after the rains, and enjoy spectacular sightings of mammals such as antelope, elephant, lion and wild dog.
This engagingly produced photojourney includes some 100 exquisite full-color photographs with informative captions and text that covers the diverse habitats of the Okavango Delta.
