Book Reviews of Okami Official Complete WorksBook Review: A few flaws, but oh so Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
Okami is an artistically beautiful game on the PS2 and Wii. (If you have not played it, I recommend you do!)It is great to see such art compiled into a gorgeous art book. There plenty of sketches of many characters--from the townspeople to the monsters/demons to the various Brush Gods. Of course, Okami has several sketches, being the main character and all.
There are even rough sketches of the various characters in the back, showing the artist's brainstorming and their unused ideas for characters and backgrounds/environments. There are even some small manga pieces and other various art.
The only two complaints I have are: (1) Many of the background and the various misc. art are a little too small (which is a shame because they are beautiful!)and (2) The binding on this book is fragile. The book is very thick and the cover binding is very thin and fragile, so handle with LOTS of care.
Besides that, this is a game artbook I highly recommend to Okami fans, to people who like Japanese artwork, and even non-gaming artists. It is truly "a work of art"...
Book Review: If you buy one art book this year, make it this one. Summary: 5 Stars
This book is an astounding value, and one of the best art-related purchases I've ever made. I was a huge fan of Okami from the beginning, but this book is excellent enough that even people that have never played the game before can get enjoyment out of it.
The book includes a brilliant holographic cover, high-quality paper stock, and vibrant coloring. My single favorite feature, though, had to be the "Gossip" section that followed up on what happened to the characters after the game was over. The storyboards, sheet music, and production sketches were all absolutely brilliant as well.
This art is not only striking and memorable, but it also manages to evoke real emotion. Any person that places any value on good artistry should look past any biases against the videogame origins of this art book and pick it up.
Best book purchase I've made in the past three years, undoubtedly.
Book Review: helpful hints okami art Summary: 5 Stars
Okami art book is large, 288 pages, helpful hints if you want to look at the book go to utube. Barnes and Nobles has it right now for under $30.00 online price. Cover is fantastic and has some prisim coloring on it. Book is great artwork from the game. Other recommendations are World of Warcraft Art and Spectrum fantasy art (There are around 17 of these so far and come out with a new one around every Christmas time for under the tree. I have collected art work and books in particular since I was 12 yrs old, nearly 30 years of collecting even Robert Bateman art. I have an art degree and am picky as I want my money's worth and this will be under my tree this year since I saw it on utube. The game is also fantastic and out of 8 gamer friends who tried it I have not heard any negative but all good about art work and the game as I also have the game.
Book Review: Wonderful artbook Summary: 5 Stars
I've played the game Okami, and I was absolutely captivated by the artwork. And I thought it would be really awesome to get the official complete works because I like the concepts and I thought it'd fuel some great ideas in my own stuff, which it has. A lot of inspiring art done with sumi and traditional Japanese art style. I like reading the little notes about how they make the characters, some of them are really funny to read and also what their thinking process was, etc. Although some of the drawings were in smaller size, I think that if they made everything enlarged, the book would be bigger and pricier. So its a pretty fat artbook. When it came I was almost surprised by its size, but then again, this is the first game that I bought an artbook of.
Book Review: BEAUTIFUL! Summary: 5 Stars
If you're a fan of the Okami games then this is a must have. The book it gorgeous from it's cover to the very last page. Every piece of art imaginable is featured in the book including posters, sketches and concept art.
The cover itself is designed to look like an old Japanese book with the string binding. Inside you'll see the watercolor style art from the actual game alongside the original art based on the works of the famous artist Hokusai. The book also features concept art for several characters, advertisements, multiple game covers, official art and notes from the creators.
It's a beautiful book that any fan of the games should own. It can be hard to find but it's worth the search!
