Book Reviews of Oh, the Places You'll Go!Book Review: Excellent and inspirational! Summary: 5 Stars
I gave this book to my cousin when she graduated from high school. Unfortunately I was late in shipping it to her as she had joined the Army Reserves and was already in boot camp, so her Mother had to forward the book to her. There was a policy that recruits could not receive packages while in boot camp,so her Drill Sergeant made her open the package in his presence. He read the book and was so moved that he asked her to read it aloud to the entire platoon. When she finished, they all had tears in their eyes. She said it was the perfect message for the new recruits. All future graduates will receive a copy of OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! from me. Thank you Dr. Seuss, you are a genius!
Book Review: A must read book! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is an absolute 'must read' for everyone. I truly believe that every home should have a copy of this book :-) I once saw it billed as 'the only self-help' book you'll ever need and this is a very acurate description. Children - even the tiniest ones - will love this purely because of the wonderful rhyming verse and eye catching illustrations. Older kids and particularly adults will love it because of the wonderful uplifting message that it contains. Sure, life isn't always easy and we all take wrong turns some times but if you keep going you are bound to end up in the right place. This book should be available on prescription as an anti-depressant!
Book Review: A Truly Unique Work of Inspiration Summary: 5 Stars
I received this book as a gift from my sister when I graduated from school. And you know something? Not one of the many volumes of reference books I've read during college, nor one NY Times Bestseller's List novels I've picked up at the bookstore, has ever given me as much confidence and inspiration as this book. Though I may not have been part of the audience in mind for this book, that in itself is what makes it so much fun. I get to enjoy Seuss' rhymes and illustrations just as any child would. If anyone is ever looking for a truly unique work of inspiration for the recent graduate, or for someone about to enter a new phase in their life, this book is the perfect gift.
Book Review: Tied for First with "How Lucky You Are" Summary: 5 Stars
This is exactly the type of messaging that we are weeding out of our kids education. Look, you are gonna do great things...except when you don't. It's okay though because you'll pick yourself up and try again. Not being really exposed to kids until I had my first about 15 months ago I didn't realize how cool some of these Seuss books are. This has to be one of my favorites and also one of the last books of his I've purchased. Sure there are better books for learning to read, but for adults who can't stand one syllable rhyming while their kids are just trying to take it all in anyway, pick this up along with "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?" and read them now.
Book Review: One Of My Favorite Ones Summary: 5 Stars
This is probably one of my favorite books written by Dr. Seuss and one that I read to my daughter when she started school last year.
It is really an inspiring book about change and what to look forward to, without the somewhat serious or darker moments in other books, such as in Horton where the Whos are in danger.
The book is also perfect for anyone about to have a big change - changing jobs, moving, graduating. The chances are many people have read this at one point or another, but may not have a copy anymore. It usually brings a smile during times of transition and shows that in some respect we never really grow up completly.
