Book Reviews of Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Book Review: Wonderful for all stages of life!
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally purchased this book for my then 5 year old as he was preparing to start Kindergarten. At the time, I really thought it was for kids starting school. It was a wonderful conversation starter to talk to him about all the wonderful things and new experiences he was about to encounter in school.

I then did the same thing with my next child and every now and then when they get low and wonder about their future, I pull this book out and read it with them. This book is great at sparking imagination and letting children know that from time to time they will be left behind or disappointed, but that around the corner something new and unexpected will happen.

This book is also wonderful for a graduation gift, whether from high school or college as the message in simple rhymes can do nothing but lift spirits. I highly recommend this book as a keeper!

Book Review: Always relevant no matter where you are in life
Summary: 5 Stars

Typically this book makes a great graduation gift, be it high school, college or some other similar milestone. It easily speaks to those who are setting sail out into the world. I read this book for the first time many years after I last graduated from anything so it's a testament to this timeless story that I was surprised how much 'Oh, The Places You'll Go' was relevant to my life at present.

As I write this review I am currently unemployed during the Great Recession. I'm optimistic for the future but, to borrow from the book, I've come down from the Lurch and now I'm in a Slump. This is not a fun place to be though I'm sure it will define me for the rest of my life, good or bad.

If you're thinking about giving this book as a gift, and you should, don't forget to read it again yourself. You'll be surprised how much it's speaking to you now.

Book Review: A real treat for all ages! Simply Wonderful!
Summary: 5 Stars

Always optimistic though never unrealistic and not too idealist! This creative book offers lots of wisdom and loads of wit. Behind the clever rhymes and cute illustrations the message is clear; Life isn't always easy but the hard spots never last forever. This book promotes perseverance, self-reliance and ambition in fun and simple poetry. Kids of all ages (since everyone is someone's kid) will gain something by reading or being read this book.

Profound versus are found on every page, but the best, in my opinion, are the ones about the surrealistic and symbolic "Waiting Place", which end with these lines.

"Waiting, perhaps for their Uncle Jake, or a pot to boil, or a Better Break, or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants, or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. Everyone is just waiting."

Book Review: This book can be the "wind beneath your wings" to your "soon-to-be-adult"
Summary: 5 Stars

"Oh, the Places You'll Go! is also a great add-on to your child (s) collection. As only Dr. Suess can do, you, or your graduating senior, will be lifted to encouraging heights with the anything but ordinary rhymes he has made famous and lovable to many generations. Dr. Suess opens the door to all the exciting possibilities that lay ahead and lovingly warns of the potential pitfalls.

This book I would not only recommend for parents to read it to their children but probably to themselves. This book is even good for those that are not parents yet. It is a book that you will enjoy reading at any moment in your life. It shows reflections into our own life's and the places we have been and the places we will go. This book is an excellent read with an example of human endurance.

Book Review: Oh the look in their eyes...
Summary: 5 Stars

When I purchased this book my twins were about 26 months old, and when I opened it to take a quick read I thought it would be too long and difficult for them to concentrate. Boy! Was I wrong!! My girls sat and listened to the entire thing - cover to cover. Listening and looking as if they understood every word (and perhaps they did!!). I was thrilled and they ask me to read them that book each night - so page by page we look at the great illustrations and read together (since now - at two and a half they know what comes next).

Another thing about this book is - its message - it's so inspirational. It can be a gift for a graduate, a child going to camp, etc. It's beautiful the way it talks about life and the process of independence - going out on your own. Absolutely LOVELY!!!
