Book Review: A Revealing Perspective From a Front Office Legend

It's been over 20 years since I picked up Buzzie Bavasi's inside look at his long career in the front office of baseball, from the glory years of the Brooklyn Dodgers to the rise of the California Angels of the early to mid '80s. This is a man of honesty & integrity who also happened to be one of baseball's savviest front office executives. Any fan of the game will certainly relish this book; I'm just glad I decided to pick it up again after all those years (I started it, then got tied up with work and it went on the backburner until just recently).
It was worth the wait. Reading Bazzasi's recollections brought back a rush of nostagila for me, and his stories were at times compelling and even hilarious. This is a man who understood the game like very few executives ever have, and he didn't like the direction the game was heading; obviously, he possessed a tremendous amount of prescience.
This is a wonderful book which only gets better with time; like a fine wine. The reader will certainly savor this particular blend of baseball wisdom from one of the game's truly good guys.
