Book Reviews of Nutrition and Physical DegenerationBook Review: Undeniable Proof Summary: 5 Stars
This book completely destroys the modern concepts of healthful foods despite being written several decades ago. Price found that native people living free of modern foods had strikingly good teeth and health in general, whereas populations inundated with processed foods had awful teeth and typically equally bad health. Processed food = Ill health. It is that simple. That, and not killing the real food you do consume (do not burn up your bison meat and do not be afraid of raw eggs, one egg in every 30,000 has salmonella and even less with free-range eggs...enough with the paranoia). Unfortunately, these days it is hard and expensive to find food how it evolved in nature. As a result we instead suffer from endless body ailments, deformed faces, and poor dental health. Tell your overpaid MD to read this book or to go take a flying leap. Find a DO who is familiar with this work. Find and support local co-ops that sell grass fed beef and raw milk (you probably live in a state where raw milk is illegal to buy so you have to own part of the cow to get the milk). Be brave! And more simply, do NOT buy highly processed junk foods. When you do, you support that industry and further feed the beast. Give Coke, Pepsi, Kraft, Frito-lay, Monsanto, Tyson, and all the other purveyors of dead food a big middle finger and free yourself from their short-sighted profit structure. I suspect the survival of our species very well could depend on changing the food paradigm back to the old 'savage' ways. [...] is a good website to keep up on REAL health trends. Be sure to sign up for his free emails (no, I don't work for him, rather I just think he is honest and his health information is some of the best). And finally, tell the government, both state and federal, to stop imposing their 'standards' on food. Where is freedom of choice with food? If I want to buy raw milk, why does the government stop me? I can make my own (better) choices than some corrupt corporate controlled government department telling me what I can and cannot eat.
Book Review: Best book on nutrition ever written! Summary: 5 Stars
Dr. Weston Price travelled the world in the nineteen-thirties to research the effects of refined western diet on the health of as many different ethnic and cultural groups as he could possibly visit. These included "primitive" cultures in Asia, Africa and some remote islands. In his research, he studied each culture, one at a time, and divided it into two subgroups: those still living on the traditional, natural and unprocessed native diet, vs. those (in many cases their near relatives) living in cities on a "western" diet of refined and processed foods.
Over and over and over, the people on the native diets were far healthier than their city cousins. From one culture and location to another, the local diet varied considerably. Some diets were essentially meatless; but others were almost entirely animal-based. It didn't seem to matter. The key to superior health seems to have been not so much WHAT one ate, but the FORM in which it was eaten. For the best health, Price shows over and over again, their food needed to be in as NATURAL and UNPROCESSED a form as possible.
The urban population samples (living on the refined diet) had consistently bad teeth and bad overall health, as illustrated by dozens of striking photographs. Meanwhile, comparative photos show that people on the natural native diet--people of the exact same heredity--had beautiful teeth, entirely free of cavities, this despite often not knowing one end of a toothbrush from the other! (None of them had any fluoride in their drinking water, either.)
Conclusion for you and me? Eat food in as NATURAL a form as possible for the best health. Avoid processed foods like the plague, unless you want the kind of "health" the people in his pictures of city dwellers had.
The work of this great nutritional pioneer is carried on today by the Weston Price Institute.
Book Review: Want the key to good health? Then here it is. Summary: 5 Stars
If you are wondering 1)why general overall health in the Western world is plummeting at a frightening rate, 2)why rates of diabetes, cancer, and other feared diseases are skyrocketing, and 3)why the greatest medical care system (U.S.) in the world causes close to 2-million deaths each year, then this is the book for you. Everybody has their unenlightened opinion, and every overpaid marketing professional will convince you the latest FDA-approved snake-oil advance is the solution to all our problems, but Weston A. Price backs up his findings with plain, simple, easy to understand facts and nothing but the facts which just happen to overthrow pretty much all the latest nonsense coming out of the medical community, government, and slick snake oil marketers in all the most elegant promotions on TV, internet, full-page ads, slick Dr. office brochures, etc. In our world of semi-reality, this book is a good dose of reality which will straighten ones thinking out before they get to the end of the book. No doubt many people will try to dismiss what Price presents or even better to force it into modern day thinking, but the facts are there and any wise person will see that "We have come a long ways, Baby" since Price's day down a road that leads to complete disaster. If you would like to dismiss this book as inconsequential, then I would suggest you consider the fact that this book is required reading for becoming an MD specialist in Environmental Health Medicine and that the worldwide highly respected head of this specialty is an executive of the organization that publishes this book.
If you are LDS, you will never understand the complete significance of D&C 89 unless you read this book and see how important the whole is.
Book Review: The Most Important Book I've Ever Read Summary: 5 Stars
Modern nutrition research is a mess. As a scientist who's interested in health research, I find the field to be amazingly full of bias and unscientific thinking. It's driven more by popular consensus than logic.
"Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" slices through modern nutrition BS with devastatingly simple logic: Price found the healthiest cultures in the world, and recorded what they were doing. It's as simple as that.
For those who are concerned with the credibility of the book, I'll mention that it's very consistent with what anthropologists and field physicians were saying at the time. Price also published some of his findings in respected peer-reviewed journals like JAMA and JADA during his lifetime. His genius was in consolidating information from many different cultures and examining what they had in common. Modern Western food habits have left a trail of destruction throughout the world, and it was painfully obvious to anyone observing a transition from traditional foods to industrially processed Western foods.
Price and other groups of researchers have shown that modern degenerative disease is caused by a modern diet, yet mainstream nutrition research continues to fumble around in the dark. These days, researchers conduct studies that compare the sick to the sicker and confuse correlation with causation. This information then gets conveyed to us by a media that is completely unscientific and more concerned with creating a big story than conveying sound information. Leave them all in the dust and learn how to be truly healthy by reading the most important and most overlooked piece of health research ever published.
Book Review: The Real Nutritional Paradigm!: Nutrition and Physical Degeneration Summary: 5 Stars
Here is the testimony of the only nutrition paradigm I know of that is based on a full spectrum of really healthy peoples! Modern medicine is truly incapable of presenting anything comparable to what is documented in this book! The reason for that failure is that modern medicine has virtually no real health reference! It is a paradigm that is based on disease! (What about health?) Quite contrary to this, Dr. Weston A. Price documented all of his search for the many living examples of radiant health that are recorded in this wonderful volume! Dr. Douglass Campbell essentially says that any practitioner who is not familiar with this work does not know what health is!
I can not recommend any book on nutrition any higher than this one!
The forwards alone are worth the price!
