This historical fiction thriller is a representation of a brave 10 year old girl and the experiences she must face during the Holocaust. The two main characters in this book are Annemarie and her best friend Ellen. As Annemarie sits in the living room one day with her Papa she says, "What's happening? Is something wrong?" Her Papa responds with a troubled face, "I wish I could protect you children from this knowledge." This story takes place during World War II in Denmark. As you continue reading this story you will find out what Papa is trying to protect Annemarie and the other children from. This book is one that you will not want to put down.
This story was a page turner! I almost read the whole story in one setting. I finished it in two days because I didn't want to put it down. I wanted to find out what happened to Ellen while I was reading. It made me keep reading and reading. I got very surprised when Ellen and Annemarie got off the bus one day and were confronted by 2 Nazi soldiers. Annemarie was very brave to answer their questions and protect her sister and friend. Anyone who enjoys reading about historical events would enjoy reading this book. It is a small glimpse into the lives of innocent Jewish people, and how discrimination can tear apart families.

-Very catchy and exciting
Just as I said the book is very catchy, and exciting. It is about a girl called Annemarie with one younger sister.
In the story somebody or someone has ordered to capture all the Jewish people and throw them somewhere. Her best friend is Jewish and there are soldiers at every corner of the street!! Both families make a plan to keep Ellen at Annemarie's house and pretend that she is their family. Ellen's family will go somewhere far for safety. That night Ellen came to her house and they were about to sleep. Just then they heard a bang, bang, bang!!!! Could the soldiers have realized it?
Check it out in the book, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry!!!!!
I feel strongly everybody who is alive, should read this book. It tells us how hard Jewish people's lives were at that time and the book is very adventurous. Also it teaches a lesson of bravery and to step in to someone else's shoes!
I think also it would be also good for a teacher to read it to their students, from grade 1-5. Read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry!!!! Read the book, the book is truly fantastic!
Book Review: This Is A Very Good Book Summary: 5 Stars
Exually I just came to the United States a little more than one year, but this book, Number The Stars, is the best English book I've ever read. It kept my attention to read on and on, until the end. I even wished that the book never ends so I could know more about it. I know that it's impossible, and that will probably make that book bored so that it's not a good book anymore. In this book, I saw a sincere friendship, and I knew about the history that discribed in the book. It's vivid discription made me saw pictures and pictures. I saw the two little good friends, Annemarrie and Elen; I saw the smart, brave mother and father, also the uncle and Peter, who helped the Rosen family to go to Sweden to find their freedom and safety. Annemarie was a brave little girl too, and she's smart. I also saw those fiendish German soldiers, who tried to stop them many times. I learned things in this book. I realized that a friendship can last forever; and people should help their friends when they needed, "that's what friends do", as Annemarie's mother said. This is a very good book, the librarina told me that too when she was handing it to me, and I hope you can read it when you have a chance. I bet that you will enjoy it.
Book Review: Righteous Gentiles Summary: 5 Stars
My parents are Holocaust Survivors, and when my 10-year old daughter brought this book home from school, it piqued my curiousity. Then, after she finished it, I read it. Although I have read a lot about the Holocaust, even I learned some new things from this book, like about the handkerchiefs soaked with chemicals so that the Nazis' dogs couldn't detect human scent (so that the Jews hidden in boats wouldn't be detected). More importantly, this book was so well-written that I wept through the entire second half of it. I have always deeply felt that rescuers of the Jews were really angels wrapped in human bodies; what they did was one of the most humanitarian acts in history. There is a Holocaust Museum in Israel, Yad V'Shem. There is a long path to the entrance of the Museum lined with trees, called the Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles. Beneath each tree is a plaque, and, with one exception, each plaque is dedicated to a different individual who helped save a Jewish life during the Holocaust. After I finished this book, I realized why the only plaque not dedicated to an individual is dedicated to an entire nation: the people of Denmark. May they always be remembered and honored for what they have done.
Book Review: a touching, stirring novel about how true friendship and love can resist the most ruthless evil Summary: 5 Stars
A wonderful novel for young readers about friendship, love, courage and fortitude.
In 1943 the Nazis have occupied the peaceful little country of Denmark, ten year old Annamarie Johanssen and her family live through the deprivation and fear of Nazi tyranny. The Jews of Denmark are being rounded up and sent to death camps.
Annamarie's best friend Ellen is taken in by Anna marie's family but the Nazis become suspicion of Ellen's dark hair contrasted to Annamarie and her sister's silver blond hair.
Annamarie and her family try to help to smuggle Ellen and her family, among other Jews to neutral Sweden.
Wonderful characterization for readers aged 8 and up, in a touching, stirring novel about how true friendship and love can resist the most ruthless evil.
. On the cover of the book is the Star of David necklace hidden by Annamarie for her friend Ellen, so as not to betray who Ellen is.
The title of the book is named for the stirring line of Psalm 47:
"The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem; he gathers in the scattered sons of Israel. It is he who heals the broken in spirit and binds up their wounds, he who numbers the stars one by one"
