Book Reviews of Not Without My DaughterBook Review: Somewhere in the Middle Summary: 5 Stars
I just recently read the book Not Without My Daughter. I own the movie and have seen it many times. I agree with the person who said we weren't there and cannot say it didn't happen, but I also agree with the people who have positive things to say about Iranians. When I was a teenager, during the time that Betty was in Iran, two very sweet Iranian college students took my Italian cousins out to dinner and a date and they treated them very good. They were very polite to my cousins and my cousins had a good time. I think there are good people in every culture and every society. Another good book that shows the positive side of Iran and it's people that I highly recommend is Honeymoon in Purdah an Iranian Journey by Alison Wearing.
Book Review: How Timely Summary: 5 Stars
I read "Not Without My Daughter" a few years ago.
With terrible everyday news of horrific happenings in Iraq and surrounding countries, this book once again becomes a timely read.
I recently re-read it and the sad, sad story took my breath away for a second time.
My own true kidnapping which took place in Moscow, January 1992 once again reared it's ugly head as I turned each page of Betty Mahmoody's book.
I take my hat off to anyone who can survive any tragedy,if you have, give yourself a pat on the back.
It's no mean feat.

But he took their passports and then told them that he was going to keep them in Iran for the rest of their lives and they would never see or talk to their family again.Betty sulfered alot of beatings while in Iran. Near the end of book Betty and her daughter finnally escaped to America on a rough and dangerous journey that could of killed her and her daughter.
Book Review: Wonderful book, recomended Summary: 5 Stars
This book was wonderful. It is one of my favorites. Some say it is boring or prejudice. I disagree. For those of you who want to know, the book is about a grown woman and her child who are forced to live and breath in Iran, where women are not equally treated in any sense of the word. Not even the books biggest critics can deny the state of affairs concering women in Iran. She describes life in Iran as she saw it during the Iranian Revolution. She vividly describes her surroundings in an as respectful taste as you could possible get in that situation. The book is well written, and did hold my attention throughout. I strongley recomend it.
Book Review: Inspiring Summary: 5 Stars
Not Without My Daughter is an inspiring book about a courageous mom who fights for the freedom of herself and her daughter. She refuses to live the rest of her life in fear of her husband in Iran. It seems as if no one will help them and they'll be stuck there forever. It is a terrifying true story that will have your heart racing throughout the entire book. You are there with Betty and Mahtob as they struggle to escape the prison they're being held in. This book is definitely worth reading and one you won't be able to put down. It opens your eyes to the other cultures of the world. It also made me appreciate being an American citizen.
