Book Reviews of No Time for GoodbyeBook Review: Finally a book that kept my interest! Summary: 4 Stars
There are few times when I start a new author that I can stay focused in the first book I read by them. This is definately one of them. I admit, the plot intrigued me even before I began to read it and it was on my To Be Read list for a long time. I got it from a book swap site and read it within a week. Fantastic! I really like that the story is told from the husbands point of view. A nice twist on perspectives. There are some decent surprises that I didn't see coming which always makes it nice for a vetran mystery reader to have. Definately recommendable, definately will want to read another by this author and definately a book that I didn't want to stop reading. Well done.
Book Review: A Fun Read despite a few flaws. Summary: 4 Stars
My first Barclay read; will check out others that were recommended as being better than "No Time for Goodbye", since I had fun reading this one.
Generally kept my interest, a little slow and repetitious at times while one or another character was brought up to date on events that had already transpired. Some unbelievable twists and turns, but I think I'm getting better at accepting that mysteries and thrillers don't necessarily adhere to having to be plausible at all times, and am able to enjoy the extra pizzazz they are intended to bring to the story.
Book Review: Gift Giver Summary: 4 Stars
I was totally amazed at the price I got this book for. This shopping is so much better than going out to a store. This book was given as a gift to my friend, who started this book and was in dire need to finish it. When I received the book, the packaging was great, but the price on the back of the book should've been taken off. The book was used and could be told due to the edges of the pages. All and all the book was in excellent condition.
Book Review: good one Summary: 4 Stars
it's really good that you can't put it down , you just keep reading , though it was OTT at the end or a bit dramatic
Book Review: Slow Start but Nice Read Overall Summary: 3 Stars
"No Time For Goodbye" is an engaging read for the most part, although it does take some time to truly get going. Linwood Barclay does a great job of developing the characters and making the reader actually care about them, something that should not be taken for granted as so many authors seem to fail in this regard. The multi-level plotline is terrific right up to the very end.
The major downfall of this book is the fact that it does drag quite a bit in its first half, as Barclay attempts to set his stage. Some of this setup falls into the empty filler category. A good chunk of the first half could be eliminated without taking too much away from the final product. Also, the writing itself, including the dialog between the characters, is somewhat banal. This simplistic style tends to make the book drag at times, leaving the reader wondering where it is headed.
The flaws are not enough to completely take away from the overall quality of the book; it is a compelling read and worth the time if you are patient with it from the start.
