Book Reviews of No One Belongs Here More Than You: Stories

Book Review: Positively Divine
Summary: 5 Stars

Miranda July is postively divine. She takes the particular and gives it universal resonance. She has an eye for the tragic and an eye for the absurd (the pathos and bathos of existence). In capturing something essential, something human, she has captured me, she has captured you.

Book Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great book. Thanks for getting it sent to my boyfriend so quickly. He commented on how it looked brand new.

Book Review: .
Summary: 4 Stars

Standing alone, each story in this book is wonderful and worth the short time it'll take you to read. They are well written, constructed, and executed. The characters are as unbelievably real as you can get and you'll actually be interested in their thoughts and feelings.

But...

All thrown together in one book it starts to all seem a little alike. You get the feeling at about the middle of it that these are all the same main characters in different life times.

Read it in parts and enjoy the book, the stories really are good.

Book Review: after a couple stories
Summary: 4 Stars

at first you arent quite sure what to make of these desperate characters. but then i personally began to understand how i and everyone else relates to them in some sort of way. the first couple of stories start the book off a little slow, but maybe its best that way because the finale seemed to be quite nice and left me wanting more books by this young lady.

i also was not head over heels for the movie, i did like it, but not head over heels. so even if the movie wasnt tops for you, consider reading this book.

Book Review: You belong here, too.
Summary: 4 Stars

Each story is a sensitive portrayal of a lonely life. The narrators all come from the same, alienated place. They are odd, and in their oddness, sympathetic.

Beneath the sad surface, there is a note of optimism in every piece. Some of the characters try to reach out to others and fail, spectacularly so, but at least they try.

Strong pieces include "The Swimming Lesson" and "I Kiss a Door."
