Book Reviews of No One Belongs Here More Than You: StoriesBook Review: International Wonder Summary: 5 Stars
You know a novel is worthwhile if you find it in the tiny English foreign language section in Seoul, South Korea. I picked up the book with no expectations. This is a great collection of short stories perfect for riding on public transport. Miranda has a talent for sharing the idiosyncrasies of a person's personality- something that would usually take years to unveil. It's a fun journey discovering her characters. Her stories do not have a lofty take-away message but rather aim to create a shared moment, an honest snapshot of the here and now.
I would highly recommend this those who love to collect stories. The kind of stories you're forced to hear from a smelly old person on a crowded bus or the disheveled lady walking all of her 15 dogs.
Book Review: Desperately delightful. Summary: 5 Stars
July's short fiction is bubbling over with desperate ecstasy - sometimes shocking (and shockingly mundane), each piece taps into the lonely core at the center of each of us. Although the charge that most of her characters are similar is true, this is hardly a negative; it is the product of her touching upon the raw spirit of the human condition. Her voice is simultaneously distinct and familiar - with her short fiction, as with her film and other works, the extraordinary becomes commonplace, and the daily minutiae becomes miraculous.
Book Review: Read This Book. Summary: 5 Stars
I typically hate short stories, i don't think they are long enough, detailed enough to get into the characters, the setting, the plot- not the case with 'No One Belongs Here More Than You.' With each story, you come away with something profound, & something beautiful. I really recommend this book to any open-minded person searching for beauty.
Book Review: Wrenching Summary: 5 Stars
A friend sent the audio version of this book, with the author reading her own work. I devoured the CDs and enjoyed every moment. In particular, July's ability to convey convulsive emotional upheavals persuasively and realistically in the confines of short - sometimes very short - stories makes this book oh-so-worthwhile.
Book Review: can you say anything more true? Summary: 5 Stars
she writes like the last bite of chocolate cake, it leaves you cringing at the fact that there is no more. I have been aching since i finished the book last spring, when will she release more?! i wish she had a book of poetry out, either that or that she would let me read all the scraps of paper hidden under her bed
