Book Reviews of Nikon D80 Digital Field GuideBook Review: A Good Addition To The D80 Summary: 4 Stars
This book is an easy read and packed full of good information. I would recommend it to anyone with a D80.
Book Review: A good value for the money Summary: 4 Stars
It good, just would rarher have bought "D80 for Dummies" but the don't make it so this will have to do.
Book Review: Not what I hoped for Summary: 3 Stars
Contrary to the author's stated hopes, this is not a book I will be bringing out with me on photo shoots. Quite frankly, it contains only a little info that I would want in the field and it certainly is not organized in a way that I could find that info quickly.
In the field I would be wanting nice summaries of camera settings, etc, that I would want to look for various shooting conditions... charts containing exposure settings and hyperfocal distances for various lenses, etc. This book has none such charts.
But what I really was hoping for from this book was a good discussion of the Custom Menu settings and when I would want to set which to what values for what purposes and conditions. I found very little on this subject, which was very very disapointing.
This is a nice book for those with little dSLR (or even general photography) experience who are trying learn about thier new camera, but not a good reference for more experienced users who want to understand the subtle and somewhat confusing aspects of this camera.
Book Review: Nikon D 80 Digital Field Guide Summary: 3 Stars
This is a Ok book guide (generally) but it needs to address basic picture taking; like how do set your camera to take : low light pics/ indoors and outdoors pics and so on. Some step by step how to instructions on how to take different types of pics. This is a field Guide that should have on the spot answers to how you set up or use the camera when taking any picture and give you a better idea on what to look for, a general feel of what will makes the picture better. You should be able to buy it... so that you can get better at using the Nikon D80 in a shorter amount of time. This book also needs a reference section that answer questions like; Why don't my zoom lens stay focus, it's keeps going in and out of focus? You are in the wrong focus mode:AF-C that is for action pics, use AF-S for single pics it puts your focus point in the center. Af-C has a group of focus points and that can cost a focus problem when taking single shots . With AF-C anything that comes into the frame will draw the focus, costing your focus to go in and out.
Book Review: nikon d80 digital field guide Summary: 3 Stars
Nikon D80 Digital Field Guide Would be a good book to get with the camera to help you get started. Fairly clear but limited. I did pick up a few helpful things from it though. For someone who is already reasonably able to use the camera , a better buy is 'A Short Course in Nikon D80 Photography by D Curtin'.
