Book Review: Overview of Classic Nieuport Fighters!

Nieuport's series of single-seaters constituted the backbone of France's fighter force in WWI. During the war, various models - the 10, 11, 16, 17, 21, 23, 24, 27 and 28 - were operational not only with the French Air Force but also flew under British, American, Belgian and Italian colors. Peter Cooksley describes these classic biplanes in NIEUPORT FIGHTERS IN ACTION, #167 in Squadron/Signal's 'Aircraft' series.
As indicated above, the basic design went through various models, not all of which were successes. The Nieuport 28, for instance, had a disconcerting habit of shedding wing fabric while diving and so on. Cooksley does a good job of summarizing the various models, their characteristics and usage.
'Aircraft Number 167' is the usual S/S blend of concise text, tons of pix, three views and Don Greer color artwork.
World War I enthusiasts will want to add this to their collection. NIEUPORT FIGHTERS IN ACTION is an excellent overview of the subject with tons of illustrations and great artwork. Recommended.
