Book Reviews of Newt Gingrich 1945

Book Review: Wish Gingrich and Forstchen would finish the story....
Summary: 4 Stars

A great alternate-history WW2 tale. Unfortunately, the authors clearly intended this to be the first book in a series that never came off. This book ends with the words "To be continued..." but no sequel has appeared in the 14 years that have passed since this novel was published. Perhaps it did not sell well enough to encourage the publisher to allow Gingrich and Forstchen to continue the story, which is a damn shame. I give this book 4 stars, when it really deserves 5, only because of the fact that the promised sequel has never been published.

As things stand, the reader is treated to a great story about a Nazi raid on America's nuclear bomb facilities in Oak Ridge and Los Alamos, setting the stage for a final showdown between America (and Britain) against a Nazi Germany that rules all of Europe and parts of Africa. Sadly, the reader is left hanging, as the authors build up to what was obviously going to be one hell of a "Battle of Britain II" in the next novel, but after 14 years it seems doubtful that the reader will ever get to find out how the story plays out.

I must admit that had I known that I was only going to get to read a portion of the story that Gingrich and Forstchen intended to write, I would not have bothered to buy this book as I do not appreciate being left hanging with no resolution to the story.

I really wish the authors would finish this story line. They've been quite successful with their alternate-history of the Civil War, (a trilogy), and I would think that their publisher would have enough confidence in them by now to let them finish out the long-delayed "1945" story. One can only hope...
