Book Reviews of Newcomb's Wildflower Guide

Book Review: Excellent resource
Summary: 5 Stars

Fantastic information, very informative, teaches you how to identify the wildflowers.**IMPORTANT** read the first several sections explaining how to use the book, particularly "The Key System and How it Works." It will make your research MUCH more efficient. What this guide lacks in color photos, it gains in really helping the novice identify wildflowers on your own. Excellent guide.

Book Review: My most-used field guide!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have yet to find a flower in the northeast that isn't in this book! It only takes a little practice to learn to use the key. I only wish they made a key like this for plants that aren't in flower. I own a comprehensive plant systematics book, but it's so daunting that I always reach for Newcomb's first. If you want to become a better naturalist, get this book!

Book Review: RI Master Gardener Advanced Education
Summary: 5 Stars

As the RI Master Gardener Advanced Education Coordinator, I have used this book for two years in workshops delivered to our membership. The "Locator Key" and identification system is easy to use (easier than using the weed identification systems) and the drawings and descriptions are clear. Would recommend to anyone interested in identifying wildflowers or "weeds."

Book Review: A regional book
Summary: 5 Stars

I have not read this book. I just want to warn potential readers that, in my understanding, this book, while excellent is only about wildflowers of the northease and northcentral U.S. I reader from Texas or Arizona might want a flower book about New York but if he were to use it at home he would be quite dissappointed. Thank you.

Book Review: A Staple for Every Fan of Plants
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is the first to go into a field bag when headed outside. It is an invaluable resource. A great deal of drawings (mostly B/W) that aid in the identification of Northeastern wildflowers. Note: requires a moderate amount of practice and/or knowledge of plants and flowers to be truly effective.
