Book Reviews of Neverwhere: A NovelBook Review: An Amazing Journey Summary: 5 Stars
This book drew me quickly into a world I found hard to leave and wishing there was more when the book had come to its conclusion. The amazing array of characters from the London Above Richard to the London Below Lady Door, the Marquis,Earl's Court, Old Bailey, Hunter, and numerous others including a dastardly duo you will loathe and yet love at the same time. If you read to get away from it all then this is the book for you. If you read for entertainment then this is the book for you. If you can turn the written word into your own visual images of the characters then this is the book for you. Dare to enter London below because once you do you will find it hard to leave.
Book Review: London Below Summary: 5 Stars
A well-conceived imaginative tale from the inkwell of master storyteller Neil Gaiman: Neverwhere takes us on a fun-filled adventure with everyman Richard Mayhew, as we join him on his odyssey from the mundane and banal world of "London Above", into the alternative-dimensional world of "London Below": a magical, dark, gothic, subterranean world inhabited by a hodgepodge of fantasy characters who consider themselves outcasts from the world above. His journey ultimately leads him on a perilous quest which becomes a metaphor for Richard's own self-discovery.
Highly recommened for fans of fantasy, sword and sorcery, dark fantasy, horror, and adventure.
Book Review: One word - EPIC! Summary: 5 Stars
It's 5 in the morning and I've just finished reading Neverwhere. This has got to be one of the most enjoyable reads I have chanced to stumble upon in the past year. It had me hooked from the moment I flipped the first page. I was sucked into the the dark world of "London Below" and by the end of the book, found myself wishing for more. Neverwhere is a brilliant fantasy novel speckled with shades of humor. My only beef with it was that I found myself begging for a sequeal (well it's not much of a beef to be honest). By the end of the book. there is no paucity of unanswered questions and I really really hope Neil Gaiman releases a sequel soon.
Book Review: Enjoyable Book Summary: 5 Stars
My brother gave me this book for christmas and said that some of his friends recomended the author. After starting this book I found that I was greatly enjoying it. Although it was sometimes difficult to keep the realities that they were in straight. Neverwhere is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Having been to London and having been in the area that the book takes place in made it especially appealing to me. The imagery that he uses throughout the book is exceptional. He weaves together a story that keeps you glued to the pages. After having read this book I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read an amazing book.
Book Review: A book that makes you think Summary: 5 Stars
I'm sure this was written as purely entertainment...a fantasy and a well written one at that...however, this one made me stop and think and that's what I truly love about it. It made me think about our lives and how sometimes it all seems so ridiculous. How we pass by those nameless, homeless individuals everyday as we rush here and there and how little we know of them or their sufferings or their world. This is a fantastic book, not only because it's well written, has a well thought out plot and has well developed characters, but because it made me look deeper into things I choose to put in the back of my mind. I highly recommend.
