Book Reviews of NKJV MP3 Audio BibleBook Review: Great listening for driving Summary: 4 Stars
Good easy listening. Dramatic reading of parts is a bit distracting and misses the mark of being entertaining.
Book Review: Good Summary: 4 Stars
The files are not all uniform but the reading and drama is well done. Great buy.
Book Review: Excellent Quality Production Summary: 3 Stars
Plays smoothly, good quality production. The voice actors are exceptional.
The only downside to me is the background music and sounds are sometimes not background enough. They edge up in volume at places and compete with the the voice parts - only in occasional places. In a way the background music helps me memorize the verses and stay focused on the content - so it's good and bad to have background effects and music.
I have not encountered any problems with end of chpater cutting off or any other playback issues noted in earllier reviews.
The tags are not the most intuitive - a little hard to read & find things quickly when hunting through the whole bible for a specific chapter - but again it's a fair trade off for the great price. I did a little editing of the tags to make them shorter which is easier to flip through on my blackberry.
**Overall the production quality is excellent as far as clarity and sound quality - the actors are rather exceptional.
Perhaps this is not the ultimate for a meditative / quite contemplative type use - but outstanding for driving and busier times of day for getting God's Word into your mind and heart.
Book Review: Quality Problems Summary: 3 Stars
I have noticed other reviews which say that the quality of the MP3 files is poor (also similar problems with the CD version (NKJV Audio Bible-58 CD Set). I have definitely had some problems with mine. I haven't gotten all the way through the set yet. I just started CD #2, in II KINGS. So far, I've had the ends of chapters cut off, skipping and repeating of a phrase throughout a chapter, and chapters missing altogether (they have the correct name, but they are actually a chapter that is further in the book). I'm pretty surprised that Nelson put their name on this.
Book Review: Good, but skips books of the Bible! Summary: 2 Stars
This is a decent audio Bible set. The main problem is that several of the middle chapters in I Kings (perhaps it was II Kings, I don't remember) are omitted. Instead of having the proper chapters in sequence some of the earlier chapters are repeated. After 9 mixed up chapters or so everything gets back on track and the rest of the books are properly recorded. I'm not happy with buying an audio recording of 85% of the Bible, I paid for 100% of the Bible!
On another topic, all of the recordings fit on 1 CD. I believe the mp3's were split up onto 3 separate discs because some mp3 disc players have a limit as to how many files they can recognize on a single CD. I'm pretty sure the manufacturer had to split the files onto three discs in order to ensure all mp3 disc players could read all of the files.
