I started looking at Bibles over Christmas as a gift for a loved one. I can't remember the last time I shopped for one and I soon found that it was going to be a much more in-depth decision than I originally had anticipated. Which translation (NLT, NIV, KJV, NASB etc)? What format (study bible, devotional, plain old text bible etc.)? What finish (paperback, hardback, leather, etc)? I was intrigued by all the choices so I decided to buy MYSELF a new Bible too!
In looking at various Bibles in the store the Quest Study Bible pleased my eye the most. The layout seemed very smooth and easy to navigate. The format (question and answer) seemed to make a lot of sense. I wanted to be sure so I did a little online research about the Bible itself, the NIV translation, Zondervan Publishing and everything. I found that there is no shortage of information (and opinion) available regarding all those subjects. I recommend that anyone weighing the decision of a new Bible consult as many trusted sources of info as possible for advice. Keep in mind that there are a lot of people with passionate opinions out there, but what matters most is that you receive the word of God through your Bible reading.
Based on the overall trust of the NIV translation, and the overwhelming satisfaction people seem to share about this Bible, I decided to get myself a Quest Study Bible. I decided on the black, genuine leather version, with thumb indexes. I'm very pleased with the quality of the binding and printing, it's a great looking and feeling Bible. The questions and answers along side the text are a really nice feature. The book intros, articles, dictionary, concordance etc. encourage me to keep reading. I've hardly put it down since I got it.
Now you may have noticed in the reviews that several people have called this Bible a good choice for "new" Christians. While I agree with that, I sort of feel like that statement may give the impression to some that this Bible is oversimplified in some way. That is definitely not the case. I truly believe that anyone would appreciate the care that has gone in to helping the reader really understand the word of God when studying this Bible.
I love it and I think you will too. I highly recommend it to anyone, young or old. I intend to use Quest as a primary Bible study tool, and I plan to add other study Bibles and Bible translations to my shelf as well. I feel like anything that gets me engaged in pursuing God's word is truly a positive thing! I hope this review helps.
