Book Reviews of My Sergei: A Love Story

Book Review: Magnificent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I think that love & passion result in the best inspiration & in the case of My Sergei: A Love Story by Ekatarina Gordeeva, this holds true. I think that because of the pain Ekatarina suffered that it resulted in this wonderful book. I know that she is an ice skater, but she could also very well be a great author. She was able to convey her life so eloquently that it made My Sergei unable for me to put down.I know celebrities always pretend to be in love & divorce a couple months later, but there was obviously such a love between Sergei & Ekatarina. Iwas so nice to see them grow to love each other so naturally through reading the book. I may love reading, but I seldom cry from a book and this book truly affected me enough that I cried. Its just beautiful.I would definitely recommend My Sergei because it is charming & heartfelt.

Book Review: Sparkling lives
Summary: 5 Stars

As a long time figure skate lover, especially Russian skaters, I had been seeing their performance since the first appearance in 1983 World Junier Championship in Sapporo.
The story reminds me their bright performance, mostly during amateur career, and also interests me what had happened in the backstages. They build their career in the interesting history time, collapse Sovient Union then start Russian Federation, and as a Russian, the book shows Sergei had a different view of new Russia.
She already got a new parter and I hope she found a new happiness. Probably she would never write about that new life in the future. Though, it is OK.
This is tragic but also we can see sparkling lives who gave us the most beautifull movements on the ice.

Book Review: An inspiring, beautiful, joyous and sad story
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful book. Full of emotions of a fairy tale turned tragedy and recovery in what is the cycle of life, it will almost certainly make you cry for both joy and sorrow, and likely cry a lot as well. Written from the heart, for the heart, "Katia" captures very well what must be extremely difficult to convey, namely love and loss for the one true love of a person's life. She definitely did justice to her and her husband's story, and enhanced his legacy through a different perspective no one else had privy to except for his Katia. It also gave the reader a perspective into Katia no one really ever had before, either, with possible exception of those really close to her like her Parents.

Book Review: Enchanting
Summary: 5 Stars

I was in love with Katia Gordeeva & Sergei Grinkov from the moment I first saw them skating together. Their classic routines were perfect enough to win many world championships including a 1988 Olympic gold medal in Calgary Canada.

Romance eventually blossomed and the beautifully matched pair were married in April of 1991. Their daughter, Daria Sergeyevna Grinkova, was born in my favorite Morristown NJ a little over a year later.

Reading Katia's memories of their life and love still brings tears to my eyes.

I recommend this book for its portrait of pure innocence enframed in the magical world of ice skating.
