Book Review: Fantastic for anyone who is still nursing the Big Sibling!
Summary: 5 Stars
First off, the version I have does have a brief line of text on every page, so it is no longer just a picture book.
Second, my 21 month old still nurses before nap and bed and at times when she is STRESSED OUT! So I was very happy that this book allowed me to easily introduce the concept that babies only drink "Mama milk" and that she'll have to share this with her little sister. The baby is shown nursing at the beginning of the book and then again when the toddler is eating, which brings up the question, "Why does the baby always have milk?"
It's a great introduction to a day in the life of a toddler and newborn that will help you gently show the Big Sibling to be how life will be different once the new baby arrives. I also love that it's called "My New Baby" since as we all know toddlers love things that are THEIRS. This establishes a sense of pride and possession that I think will help make the transition from only child to Big Sister a little bit easier for my daughter.
Summary of My New Baby
There is so much to find out when a baby is born! What does it smell like, and when will it walk? When does it sleep, and what does it like to eat? A new addition to any family is exciting, but the experience can alsobe worrying and confusing for siblings. Coping with the new situations and emotions that arise can be very challenging. This series of four board books deals with the anticipation of waiting for the new baby, the excitement of the arrival itself, and the beginnings of the special relationship that develops between siblings.
