I picked this up when I was in Spain because it was one of the only books I could easily find that was written in English. I loved it!!! Durrell's amazing depiction of Corfu made me really want to go and explore the magical island that he brings to life. This is a fantastically written book that anyone who appreciates literature can love. The immagery rich and deatiled, the charccters are wonderfully brought to life by some witty dialogue, and the charm is undeniable. It also arrived on time and in perfect shape. I've lost my old copy of this book and am just about to purchase a new one because I want to read it to my children. I first read this as a 10 or 12-year old. I loved it then and I love it as much now. If I had to name a favorite book - it would definitely be a contender!Book Review: Must Read

I just love this book--hilarious, highly readable, wonderful descriptions of Corfu, interesting information of a naturalistic nature, nostalgia for a bygone era. I first read this book at age thirteen and proceeded to re-read it when ever I wanted a lift. Some of the stories made me laugh out loud and I found myself in love with Greece and even Dung Beetles.
I recommend this book to everyone I know.
