Book Reviews of My Big Girl Potty

Book Review: Nice easy book to read
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter likes to have this book read to her while sitting on the potty. Great to teach her what she should be doing in a fun way.

Book Review: Good book for the very first steps of potty training
Summary: 4 Stars

This book does a nice job of illustrating and explaining to kids the very first steps in using a potty - offering encouraging words about sitting on the potty and reassuring comments from the "Mommy" and "Daddy." There are several pages that talk about trying, but not succeeding, in using the potty, and reassuring kids that this is OK - I don't know, but the concept of being anxious about not getting any pee in the potty when trying seemed lost on my kids. For parents it might be frustrating, but my 28-month-old twins have never seemed to be conflicted or stressed when they have tried to use the potty and nothing came out. This book does not really stress the pride and excitement of leaving diapers behind all-together - something that I was really looking for to help my kids WANT to take the final steps in potty training. I will have to purchase additional books to get that message across, and wouldn't recommend this book if your kids are already somewhat familiar with sitting on the potty and trying to go to the bathroom.

Book Review: Great Resource
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this book for my daughter to help in potty training her. Even though she likes 'The Potty Book - For Girls' by Alyssa Satin Capucilli better, she enjoys this book as well. Showing all the stages of potty training including showing Ashley sitting on the potty w/ her clothes on, then removing her diaper, accidents and finally, 'big girl' underwear, it helps little ones to understand the concept of 'going' on the potty. I gave this book 4 stars only in that it's a little more 'wordy' than 'The Potty Book - For Girls' and isn't as colorful but I do recommend it to anyone.

Book Review: Does a good job of explaining how potty training happens
Summary: 4 Stars

I like this book because it explains potty training as a process, beginning when mommy and daddy bring home a potty chair and ending with the transition to big girl panties. It depicts two supportive parents gently helping their daughter to learn to use the toilet and shows that sometimes accidents will happen and that the child will still need to wear diapers at night for a while. It is also relatable for children, beginning with the words, "Ashley is a girl just your age" and describing how she likes to play with toys and do other things that children like to do.

Book Review: Wonderful book
Summary: 4 Stars

My two-year-old loves Ashley and "Floppy" her bunny. She loves answering the questions at the beginning ("Ashley wears diapers. Do you wear diapers too?"). My daughter has shown a lot more interest in the potty since reading this book. My only qualm is the sentence about flushing the toilet and the water going into the "pipes beneath the house." Now is that kind of detail really necessary for a toddler? It only confuses mine and I leave it out. Otherwise, a topnotch potty book and highly recommended.
