Book Reviews of Murder Machine (Onyx)

Book Review: How can it have happened?
Summary: 5 Stars

I am amazed by the brutality of the DeMao crew that the authors have presented in such a matter-of-fact manner. I live in England and my work takes me through many middle eastern countries that the Americans avoid however, I would rather walk through Beirut, Baghdad or Tripoli any day (or night) rather than through those parts of New York where the scum known as "Goodfellows" reside. What I fail to understand is how the American justice system can be so amateurish when dealing with these people - after all, they are not rocket scientists. Most of the "made men" have less intelligence than a worm. The authors are to be congratulated - a great read - you can keep the Godfather - give me real life.

Book Review: Best Mob Book Since The Valachi Papers
Summary: 5 Stars

As a New York journalist, I had a passing acquaintance with the sinister reputation of the DeMeo Crew of Canarsie. Once I started Murder Machine, I couldn't put it down. It literally cost me sleep, both because I stayed up late reading and because I stayed up later cringing at this true story of uncontrolled murder and unimaginable butchery. This story is told in an absorbing narrative. The characters are introduced and fleshed out with layers of extraordinary detail, the result of insightful reporting. The Soporanos is a nice fairy tale, but this is the mob as it lives and breathes in real life. Read it and be afraid, very afraid. If you only can read one book about the mob in America, read this one.

Book Review: Excellent coverage of America's most deadly serial killers.
Summary: 5 Stars

It just so happens that these serial killers happen to be gansters. This is an unbelieveable mafia story that happens, unfortunately, to be too true. The presentation of the action in the story is only surpassed by the character development of the various Gambino associates. As I read this book, I could not help wondering why we outside of the "Tri-State Area" have head so little about their activities. My only criticism is that the details involving all the law enforcement personnel was a little over developed. However, I applaud the authors for their support of and the attention they paid to the first line officers who dedicated themselves to the arrest and conviction of this muderous crew.

Book Review: MURDER MACHINE
Summary: 5 Stars

Murder Machine is an engrossing and chilling account of the steady descent into madnes of a violent gang of small time crooks terrorizing the Canaisaire section of Queens. This gripping and terrifying tale of greed, murder and mayhem will force the reader to reflect on the true nature of evil.

The authors, by refecting on the mindless brutality of common criminals, strips away the "glamorous" and "chic" facade of organized crime as portrayed by such films and television programs as the "Godfather" and the "Sopranos".

Such romantic notions as "honor" and "family" are blown away as a as easily as the victims of the psychopathic gang.

Book Review: Brutal depiction of a violent crew
Summary: 5 Stars

This is true horror at it's peak, the Demeo crew were some of the most violent and sinister people that I have ever read about. This book is a look into the lives of gangsters but, it takes it to the next level, this is my favorite book and I have read countless number of mob books, I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading about the ruthlessness of the mob. The Demeo crew did things there own way and made a lot of money doing it. They couldn't make a true representation of this book into a movie because nobody would actually beleive it was based on a true story it is just that unbelievable. A must read though nothing compares in mob books.
