Book Reviews of Moscow Rules (Gabriel Allon)

Book Review: Taut, suspenseful, can't-put-it-down read
Summary: 5 Stars

Best by far in the Gabriel Allon series is this fast-paced, taut novel! Silva has created a wonderful team to assist Allon as he unravels the mysterious deaths of two Moscow journalists and find "the swords of Allah." Are the Israeli, American, British, and French secret services in time to save more innocent lives around the world from certain death?

The famous art restorer's honeymoon in Umbria, Italy is interrupted to see Boris Ostrovsky. The Russian editor in Chief of the "Moskovsky Gazeta" uses the name the art restorer's mother gave him and King Saul Boulevard agrees. What was just a little meeting to hear what the journalist has to say becomes a frightening scenario involving Ivan Karkov, a Russian oligarch and arms dealer, his wife, and Al Qaeda. Allon uses elements of his two lives: assassin and art restorer to unravel and stop the terrorist group from implementing their "Wrath of God" world wide.

What I loved about this novel is Allon travels all over the world: South of France to Rome to D.C. to London to Moscow to Assisi to Moscow. The time span of the international operation is months rather than mere days or a few weeks as in most intrigue novels. And the people he enlists to assist him are wonderful characters in their own right whether he is out front or in the shadows. Leaving Allon behind alone without any back-up in Russia kept me turning the pages all though the night to find out if the master assassin/art restorer will live to complete his honeymoon with his young wife Chiara!

Book Review: Good read with same powerful Israeli characterization
Summary: 5 Stars

Silva's books leave no doubt about his political or theological beliefs. Lots of Nazi and Munich Olympic games references and connections and inuendos, a good artistic and innocent asassin and Palestinians that just need killing. I have read all of Silva's books and they are good genre(?)reads...I like his asassin hero's style, and the predictable father like "killers by duty and obligation" of Mossad....and the ever present threat of Israel's brutal military style. Entertaining and fun...since they are novels.

Book Review: Russian Arms Dealer Sells New Weapons To Al Qaeda
Summary: 5 Stars

I've enjoyed all of Daniel Silva's books. This was no exception. He planned an operation to halt the sale of sophisticated missiles that could bring down aircraft to Al Qaeda. The arms dealer was a ruthless former KGB officer who had become a multi millionaire in the new Russia. Lack of freedom of the press in the new Russia is duly noted. This was a fast moving page turner. Most of the action took place in France,Russia,England and Italy. Quick enjoyable read.

Book Review: Another Outstanding Novel
Summary: 5 Stars

Daniel Silva has created yet another original and thrilling international espionage novel. I love the new setting in Russia and I am very excited to read the next book in the series. The only bad thing is that I only have one Gabriel Allon book left. In addition, the audio edition of this book is very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed Moscow Rules, as I have all of Silva's books.

Book Review: Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first Daniel Silva novel I have read and it was great. What a pleasure to read. The story carried me along. The characters were well described and interesting. I felt I was in all the locations of the book. It was fast paced. There was no boring bits at all. I can't wait to read all the other books.
